Default Small successes

The handle on my master bath toilet started getting loose and was finally just dangling. I tried to tighten the plastic nut on the inside of the tank to no avail.

Called two plumbers but they didn't have non-emergency appointments available for more than a week. Yes, I could walk across the house to the guest bath and yes, I could leave the tank lid off and manually pull up the flapper, but what am I, an animal?

I drove the 4 minutes to Ace and the person doing the welcoming directed me to the correct aisle. There were probably 10 different types of handle/lever assemblies at various price points and materials. I was pondering the mysteries of plumbing when the helpful hardware man came to find me and ask if I needed help. As it turns out, yes.

He explained the difference between front and side mounts vs universal, etc. I told him I wasn't able to tighten the nut on the handle; it just kept spinning. He said, "You know that turns counter clockwise."

MIND BLOWN!

Thanks, Ace. You lost a $7 sale but saved me an $80 service call from the plumber.

Good for you. Our Ace Hardware is about 10 minutes away and Lowes is 15 minutes away. You just can't beat the service at Ace. When practical they are my go to store because of the advice on things I'm not that good at like Plumbing. They single-handedly have made me go from a Zero to a Hero Plumbing wise. I realize that if I don't spend a little more money and support stores like them then I'm to blame for closures like what happened to Sear's and Toys R Us who I fully replaced by Amazon. Shame on me.

Where are you going out to dinner with the plumber's money? I'm happy for you. Take Care.

A plumber is the only guy I know who can take a leak and fix one too!

Ace is our first choice.....amazing what they have and the knowledge is worth the drive. Never found Lowes folks to be very helpful.

It's also amazes me how anybody you ask at Ace where is a certain item they know what isle but where in the isle it is. They will take you there and have the knowledge to help you.

And if they don’t have the item, they order online and it’s there the next day. I needed a sprinkler head, cost 98 cents, they ordered it and I picked up the next day, cost? Still 98 cents. Love Ace Hardware at Southern Trace.

As a very long term customer, I love Ace and their very helpful...folks.

And yes, I also appreciated the change in their jingle...which more accurately reflects reality.

I worry about the future of brick and mortar stores in the USA and their employees, but have no worries about Ace Hardware. They have figured something out - customer service and reasonable pricing works.
