Water puddling in lanai
I had a problem with water puddling in lanai at the corner of the frame for the screening. Drilling holes wouldn't look very professional and there are businesses that will install a drain for about $55 each. What I did and it took all of 10 minutes is to loosen the bolts that attach the bottom rail of the screening to the floor, pry it up with a large screwdriver or crowbar, insert a 1/16" shim under it and retighten. Now the rail is off the floor and the water runs right out. For the shim use something that won't rust, such as plastic, aluminum, stainless etc. The repair is invisible.

But, haven't you given ants, bugs, and other creepy crawlers an entrance?

Ants, and bugs got in anyway before the repair. You can't keep ants out unless you lay down poison. Nothing such as a lizard can crawl in with a 1/16" gap. Make the gap whatever you like. The smaller the slower the water will run out but come to think of it what's the rush as long as it doesn't puddle.. I used a very large plastic wire tie, cut to the width of the frame. Smaller wireties that would be thinner would work also and wouldn't rust or corrode. Any gap will let the water run out and the smaller the better for bugs, but you'll never eliminate all bugs.

You have described one of the reasons we enclosed the lanai with low-e glass sliders....LOVE it and its year round living.

I have had the same problem. I've been looking for a solution for a long time. What I decided to try was loosening the bolts that fasten the frame to the cement. Only loosen a fraction of an inch. The lanai drains well now. To this point I haven't seen any bugs getting in; this may be the only trade-off to the simple and no cost alternative.

Thanks for the tip.

There is one other solution. One of our fellow villagers advertises in the Daily Sun every day that he has a patented solution to the problem. I don't remember what he charges or how it works, but if anyone is interested they can see it in the paper.
