I have noticed that over the past year, the number of cigarette butts discarded on the tee boxes has increased significantly. Besides being a health issue, this type of unnecessary trash is disgusting. Is it too much to ask that smokers buy a small ashtray to put in their carts and not discard their butts on the course? Ambassadors are responsible for regular "clean-up" before and after the golfers play. Please be considerate, not only to your fellow golfers, but to the workers and maintenance staff. We want your golf experience to be enjoyable for everyone.

If you see them doing so they should be admonished and blocked from scheduling golf for a least month if you can't fine them and hit their pockets or pocketbooks.

If you've never been hooked on tobacco you'll never get it.

Not true any more

It’s a very hard habit to stop! Both my Mom and Dad smoked. My Mom quite 50 years ago. She turns 101 in May!! My Dad died 20 years ago of cancer. 3 years ago I quite. I never thought I would, but I just felt I had to. I took Chantex for only 5 days!! I had it in my mind that it was time to stop. I wish a lot more people would try to stop. I can breath, taste and smell things like I haven’t in a long time. I just wish that people would try to stop drinking. It not only makes a lot of people mean, but they are killing people driving.

My dad only smoked a couple of years while in the Navy during WWII and he died of lung cancer in 2004 at age 76. I smoked for 35 years but quit using Chantix in 2005, without the drug I don't think I could of quit on my own. I had tried twice before for six months each by riding a bicycle every morning when I felt like I needed my first cigarette, but it never lasted. I started Chantix on a Thursday and by Sunday I had run out cigarettes and quit. I finished the 30 days of pills but that was the end, the nightmares were very bad I couldn't take anymore. That was 15 years ago.

It's very addicting habit, nobody will understand who hadn't smoked. The funny thing was I didn't smoke in high school or 2 years at St. Pete JC, it wasn't until I was 20 and in the Army and overseas in Korea that I started. Initially it was only at night when I was at the NCO Club and I borrow a cigarette. Since cigarettes were only 17 cents a pack, somebody once said, why don't you just buy a pack there so cheap. That was the beginning.

Catalina36 02-23-2021 06:08 AM

No, unfortunately the new cars and older cars do not have ash trays! I have a 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. No ashtray!

Catalina36 02-23-2021 06:11 AM

Good for you, best thing you ever did for your health was to quit smoking.
Oh and Thank You for your Service to our Great Country. Thumbs Up

wsachs 02-23-2021 07:42 AM

Those people were probably never in basic training. We were all taught how to 'field strip' a cigarette and put the filter/paper in our pockets to dispose of later. Throwing a butt on the ground would get you 50 push-ups and/or a two mile hike.

Cigars are biodegradable. Not saying they should be dropped on the ground, but real cigars are biodegradable.

Does that really matter on a golf course? Does that make it right?

Shadia328 02-23-2021 10:53 AM

Thank you, this drives me crazy!! We live in a beautiful place, and the butts are nasty. I do a lot of walking, and see many butts that have been tossed from carts.😡

Cigars being biodegradable is a non issue, why bring it up? Me thinks someone took the issue of cigars personal

When I see cigarette butts on the golf course I get the feeling there must be a correlation between smoking and I.Q.

Florida17 02-24-2021 08:03 AM

Maybe people could fix their ball marks and rake their foot prints in traps too...

They could hide their butts in the sand trap as they rake. Not a chance.

I appreciate the ambassadors and the work they do, thank them all the time. If your remark was to them, shame on you.

Get your carry permit and strap up! That will make the litterbugs take notice that there is a new sheriff in town!

Well my friend. As you can tell from the reply's. You have people with some portion of their brain left and others that have lost a majority of their senses. If you call yourself a golfer , the game of golf is like a lady. She will not be tamed but demands respect. Because when she gives her best back to you , it makes you shine on the inside and will encourage you to come back and visit her again. For the people who smoke I agree you have the right to kill yourself if you want. But please understand , you stink around people who don't smoke and we do not want to see your garbage on the ground. To all ambassadors. Anytime you work for the public , you are always going to be criticized by some. Its the way people are today. I for one really enjoy golf here and I thank anyone that makes that happen.

tallmanf 02-25-2021 09:07 AM

Most smoker are lazy and filthy. They just throw butts down, as if it’s not litter. I have even seen them empty ashtrays in parking lots.

As the OP, your post is sincerely appreciated. I learned long ago that you cannot please everyone. When golfers say, “Thanks for what you do”, my day is made so much better. When I see a golfer filling a divot, I always thank him or her for being considerate. I smile at and wave to everyone I can. Maybe that smile will make their day a little better as well. Although I can fight my own battles, we are prohibited from becoming involved if things heat up. Our authority goes only so far. I am happy to say that I had to call my manager only once in the past year.

RickThole 02-25-2021 03:33 PM

I’m a ambassador to and 97% of golfers don’t fix divots on the greens and tee box’s

We used to be able to give out good golf rewards, I gave quite a few to golfers that showed love of the game and care for the courses.

You lose credibility with a percentage like that...............unless you have documented proof over a period of time.

almyers 02-25-2021 05:40 PM

I was an ambassador and I found gum just as disgusting, plus it sticks to your shoes and tracks into your cart.

John_W 02-25-2021 05:58 PM

I had new wood floors installed in September by the Floor Shoppe, about every two hours all four installers went out front and smoked a cigarette. They were all hard workers, but it seems like nothing has changed.

It's not just the younger people, almost everytime I go to Walgreens I see a senior, usually a woman, buying 2 packs of cigarettes, and it's not the same woman, and it's not the same Walgreens.

Most quality cigars are rolled in tobacco leaves grown where I grew up, in the fertile farmlands of the Connecticut river valley in western Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut.
