I have a friend visiting next week who wants to go home looking "refreshed". She will only be in TV for a week, and she wants to look into botox, fillers, etc. (no surgery). I know there are continual ads in the Daily Sun and a lot of free information seminars. I'd like to make an appointment for her at a clinic or with a doctor, however I don't know the good from the bad.
Does anyone know anything about clinics in this area? Perhaps you know someone who has had work done. If you could post any recommendations here, I'd really appreciate it. I understand that some women may not want to talk about this delicate subject publicly. If you don't care to post, I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a PM. Thanks. :highfive: |
a small FYI
Hi Bare,
I can't speak as to where to go in TV, but thought I'd throw in some notes of personal experience. I have had botox once. They use it primarily for forehead wrinkles and wrinkles between brows. It was an ouchie... and although the wrinkles were gone immediately, the injection holes took a week to heal. It also changed my brow line.... something to think about if she tweezes her brows. They may sit differently afterward. I had filler once as well, around my chin/mouth lines. It was painful. I almost made her stop. Tell your friend this takes 2 WEEKS before you look good. I was really black and blue, even with immediate and constant ice packs. Makeup covered it a bit, but I certainly didn't look 'refreshed' by the end of a week. (The filler used was Perlane) The botox lasted about six months for me, and the filler has a bit of a permanent effect, as it is a sugar that stimulates your body to produce collagen in the area injected. I did it for my wedding, and liked the effects of the filler better than the botox.( Had to really be an artist with fixing my brows afterward) But thank Goodness I did it 3 weeks before time, or I would have looked like a mess for my special day. I don't think I'd do botox again, but might think about filler if I really start to sag. It can be overdone.... I saw a lot of filler watching the Oscars on television. Billy Crystal, looked especially round in the face. One more note... I am sensitive to a lot of stuff, but had no problem there. Now... keep my 'secret', okay? |
Barefoot-
I have heard really good things about Mesos. (Not sure if I spelled that correctly). A few of my friends have been there and are really pleased. I have not been their personally however, they are supposed to be really clean and professional. Please let us know where your friend goes and if she is pleased. |

UPTOWN GIRL, you're the best! Thanks so much for the comments about botox and filler, and for being so open about your experiences. It was really an eyeopener to hear your comments. It never occurred to me that botox could affect eyebrows, but of course, that makes perfect sense. I was under the impression that you could have fillers at noon hour and then go back to work. And I thought they used a topical anethestic. So your experience with perlane was very enlightening. Especially about how painful it was, and how long it took to settle down. I'm pretty sure my friend wouldn't consider any painful procedures. |
Hi Bare-
Both of my friends had fillers plus botox. One of them had the laser treatment as well. They both look fabulous. However, it did take about a week for the bruising to go away. You can cover it with makeup however, they both said to make sure you have extra makeup in your purse. Apparently, they put the fillers around your mouth. If you touch your mouth, eat or drink something the bruising shows through. Neither one was badly bruised but noticeable without makeup. Hope that helps! The only problem is that is expensive. The botox wears off every three months and is costly to keep up. |
Hi Girls,
If there are others out there who like Lands' End like I do, you might want to know about the sale that they are having right now. Everything is 30% off and the shipping is free. If you like cardigans, you will find them in lots of different colors. It's also a good place to find swimsuits. And I love their totes. I buy Mr. Boomer's khakis from Lands' End. It is so much easier than trying to get him to go to the mall to try stuff on. There is a sale promo code on the Lands' End website's opening page. But you will have to hurry, hurry, hurry if you want to order anything. The sale expires at midnight. Midnight tonight -- so if you get way into looking through their website, don't forget to keep an eye on the clock. Boomerella |

I recently ordered a bathing suit online (took a leap of faith), from Bare Necessities. It came immediately, free shipping, no problems, and I like it. |
As for a recommendation for an online store, I have had good results with Zappos. Returns are at their expense. The first time I ordered the wrong size, so had to return the order. Since then, no returns necessary.

Heh Heh - Girl Talk
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY...
Women are like phones: They like to be held, talked to, and touched often. But push the wrong button and your ass is disconnected. :1rotfl: |

Does anyone know where in The Villages I can buy one of those little "half" sweaters .... you know the kind with sleeves that just covers the girls and stops half way to your waist? Are they called bolero tops, I'm not sure. |
Hi Barefoot,
Those sweaters are called shrugs. I have always thought that was such a perfect name for them. Boomer |
I have had good luck with them also

shoulder pads are back!
One of the jackets in a Coldwater Creek fashion show I went to this week had shoulder pads - if we could only have a closet for each decade . . .

Barefoot....I, too, am glad the days of panty hose are over!! "Barefoot" is a fitting name for you now!!
You have made me curious....do any of the ladies out there reading this forum wear panty hose now and then? I haven't for years...bare legs were totally accepted in the office environment I retired from last April. Just wondering....:undecided: |
Cropped Cardies
Just saw an ad for Old Navy and they have "Cropped Cardies", aka shrugs, on sale for $8.00

Hi Girls.......
Starflyte, I like Zappo's, too. And their service is so good that I feel like the order has arrived almost before you are finished placing it. There is a warehouse in Louisville and that's relatively close to Cincinnati, shipping-wise. Zappo's sure is efficient. But I find their website to be a bit overwhelming. Usually when I go there, I am looking for my old faithful New Balance 801's that I have been buying for years. Since I know the brand and style, it should be easy to find exactly what I want. But last time, I gave up, called, and said, "Help!" And they helped. The shoes were listed in a different section or something that made them hard to find. I wondered if my comfortable NB 801's might be headed toward becoming discontinued. :22yikes: So I bought a couple of backup pairs. Yes. I confess. I hoard New Balance 801's. Since I started wearing them, I have never had Achilles' tendonitis again. The shoes have no backs. And the doc told me to avoid shoes with backs when I can. And since retirement, that's a lot. And about those shrugs..... I found some shrugs at Macy's website, but I think Whalen has found the better deal. Here's Macy's...... http://www1.macys.com/search/index.o...&Keyword=shrug And girls, now, about those pantyhose..... Who among you is willing to confess to having to wear those stupid, miserable panty girdles back in the days when there was nothing that needed girdling and before pantyhose had been invented? Uh huh....a lot of you know exactly what I am talking about. I remember being so excited to finally get my very first pair of stockings -- my people called them hose. And my mother said the panty girdle was how I should hold them up.....and that's what I used for a few years while waiting for L'eggs to be invented. But now that I look back on those days of wearing those wretched panty girdles and think about it....ya know, those things sure could double as a chastity belt. I guess Mother really did know best. Boomer PS: I want shoulder pads to come back, too. Shoulder pads made the rest of me look skinnier. |
I remember how special it felt to wear that panty girdle and hose for the first time. I felt so grown up! Remember how the hose always bagged at the knee and sometimes the ankle, and then you had to pull them up and reclip? And when you got a run, it took off faster than possible. Those runs really ran! Remember putting clear fingernail polish on the runs to keep them from spreading?
The answer to your question as to whether anyone here wears pantyhose -- NO, no and NO! The last time I wore pantyhose was to a funeral in Michigan. |
I can't remember the last time I wore a pair of panty hose.
I must admit if it is a very special occasion (like my son's spring wedding on a beach), I will hit the tan salon or use spray tan. Otherwise, it's black tights in the winter. - good riddance! I can't even stand shoes with an enclosed toe!! Freedom at last P.S. I wouldn't mind the small shoulder pads returning......Barefoot -I too remember the business suits with big shoulder pads - simulating "power"!!! |
Oh, my goodness!!!! I remember those panty girdle things with hose...basically a garter belt! There were girls in my Junior High that wore their hose with runs in them stopped with RED nail polish....and wore them several days in a row! Remember, back then we couldn't wear pants to school...and bare legs were NOT the "IN" thing...so we had to stretch the hose to the limit! I wouldn't go back to those days for all the Orange Juice in Florida!!! :ohdear:
|
Remember thinking panty hose was actually a godsend because you no longer had to wear either a panty girdle or a garter belt. Oh yeah, the clear nail polish. lol
The last time I wore panty hose... gosh, that I actually can't remember! :clap2: |
ummm....did anyone....way back then, before, you know, the bumps appeared.....did anyone wear a bra stuffed with Kleenex????
I knew of someone personally who did, and she would shed her tissues here and there. |
I tried it once and only once. My whole family was at the drive-in movie. When we kids went to the concession building, I went into the ladies room and stuffed a little bit just to see how I would look. Well, at first glance, my perceptive mother told me to go back into the ladies room and take out that stuffing. That was the end of that!
Thanks for the funny memory, Graciegirl. |
That scenario brings back an incident I will never forget when my close girlfriend (when we were in Jr High School) and I went swimming at Walden Pond in Concord (some of you may be aware of the place). I was somewhat developed and my friend was not at all. Unbeknownst to me, she wore a two-piece bathing suit and stuffed Kleenex in the top. I didn't notice. When we both dove off of the dock into the water.......................I surfaced to find Kleenex surrounding my friend. Yup, talk about her most embarrassing moment. The kids swimming really did a number on her and I was in shock and embarrassed for her as well. Think that was her biggest "duh" moment in her life.
Precious moments.....my friend has since passed on and I hold dear that fond memory of her. |

Of course, that was before the day when 16 year olds got breast enhancements for a graduation present! |
It seems to me that girls are "maturing" much younger today than they did 50 years ago. I've read that all the hormones in our meat and dairy supplies are causing adolescents to mature much faster. I've seen 12 year old girls with the bodies of playboy bunnies! I don't know about you, but I'm glad that I was still playing with Barbie and stuffing my training bra when I was 12.

I wish there were more fish restaurants in TV, or vegetarian restaurants. I've tried smoothies with protein powder but they don't work for me. Sigh, someday I'll reach my goal. |

Those smoothies taste better without the protein powder. And, we love, love, love Sweet Tomatoes! :duck: |

But you're saying smoothies taste better without protein powder. I'm looking for a smoothie that satisfies my appetite for a few hours. Can you give me a suggestion for an easy-to-make basic smoothie? I've been using almond milk, protein powder, frozen strawberries, 1/2 bannana, sometimes yoghurt or spinach ... but after I have a smoothie, I just want another one! Maybe I need some of those battery operated cigarettes. |
Cal's Full Service Hair Salon for women
Just saw an ad in today's Daily Sun for Cal's "Full Service Hair Salon" at Spanish Springs on Del Mar Dr. ("check out our newly remodeled salon"), offering color, foils, waxings, etc., and they're a Paul Mitchell salon.
I don't know if they've had this full-service salon for awhile or if these women's services are new there. Does anyone have experience with women's color and cutting there? If so, is there a particular stylist you'd recommend? Thanks! |
I had a friend visiting in March who was interested in having botox or a filler and returning to work "refreshed". At that time, there were helpful comments, especially from Uptown Girl and LisaJ. She decided she didn't have time for the treatments. She got me interested in the subject of fillers and botox poison injections. There is so much information out there, both negative and positive. Obviously anyone in the entertainment has had extensive treatments.
I'd love to hear some first-hand information. I know there are tons and tons of girls in TV who are having injections, it is a plastic surgeon's heaven. But some gals don't want to talk about it openly. Even on Girl Talk, where guys aren't allowed. So .... Does anyone know anything about this subject? If you don't want to post on it here, perhaps you could PM me? Great, thanks. |
