So the crux of the matter is: A nail technician up north advised the OP not to use a salon with Asian technicians. Why? Was it because of inferior products or inferior work, or both. Only the OP can answer the question, or maybe not. Maybe she doesn't know why she was warned.

I quit getting manicures when I became convinced that the products were too hard on my nails. After a week and a half most of the polish was gone and the nails were "thin" and breakable. No manicures, no problem with weak nails.

There is this one study that I can find that sounds credible;

New Study Suggests Chemicals From Nail Polish Can Harm Women's Bodies - Opposing Views

This study is from Duke University and The Environmental Working Group (EWG) BUT there is some criticism of it's funding. See here;

I didn't know until yesterday when you mentioned it that some folks were skeptical of the use of nail polish and removers.

I a currently an unpainted woman.

The reason I didn't want to go to an Asian salon is because they use a dremel to remove the polish. I have had ruts in my nails due to this. Also, it seems like everything is priced individually. At home, I pay $25 for everything. A fill, polish, repair/replacement of any broken nails, any kind of polish and hand painted designs. Can I get my nails done for that?
