A lot of the problem might be inferior cotton made in China (or possibly Sri Lanka).

This makes sense. We never have these pin holes in our shirts, and I always use "Easy Care" cycle on the washer when washing our clothes. I rarely use the Cotton cycle and if I do, it's for towels.

The pin holes could be from wear and tear caused by the increased agitator action in the washer when used on Cotton setting.

The only other theory cited above that I think the pin holes could be from is the fact that we all wear seat belts in the car and that could wear on clothes.

Pinholes

Are you washing with your bras? That could be the cause. I use a lingere bag if throwing bras in with clothes n

Holy Smokes.... I had no idea so many people had the same problem????? Wow,,,,
a) I don't have a golf cart, so that can't be the reason
b) I wore seat belts in CA and never had any pin holes
c) Cotton has been coming from Sri Lanka for years and this only started when I moved to TV
d) Its always the brand new, more expensive Tshirts, in the same EXACT spot, on the front just below my waistline????

What a dilemma.

So glad this thread ( no pun intended) got started since I have the same problem with many of my tees, some of which are fairly new. I also thought of the seat belt being the culprit but another thought is since I never tuck in my tees I thought maybe the rough corners where the snap or button is on the waistband. On the other hand, I have numerous shirts that I've had for some time and don't have that problem. Makes no sense.

The other thing is it seems to be since we moved to The Villages????

Love Bug acid

I was told the damage was caused by the acid secreted by LoveBugs. The residue will apparently mar the surface on a car's finish :(

Using too much bleach can cause holes in clothing.

Here's a thought. Perhaps the shirts are a blend of cotton with polyester, lycra, or nylon, in which the synthetic component breaks down with too-high heat in the dryer, weakening the fabric?

I don't think it's anything unique to The Villages. I used to have the same problem with my T's back in NY from time to time. Today I've solved the hole issue and no longer have any problem . I just stopped wearing clothes! :22yikes:
