Well chels, there are worse things than not being a grandparent. You have much less inner conflict about not seeing them, how they are being raised, etc, etc. You can just go out and play without having to worry about them. And it's waaaaaay cheaper not having them. 1rnfl 1rnfl 1rnfl

Chels

I have an idea!!!! I'll introduce you to my grandson who lives nearby and you can be his grandma when I'm not here...lol

If you take Bright's grand, you'd better be aware that he's used to a Gram that loves to play and do cool kid stuff. (and spoil him)

Sign me up! I'll be your first customer! I loved being the "neighborhood mom."
Can't wait to get to TV country club pools where (supposedly) all the kids hang out.

Oh Sam, I can sympathize. Left my two girlies in NC this morning and cryed for the first half hour of the drive.
I was so ready for a little free time and a lot less noise.....and then I cry when it is time to leave.... :'( :'(

Isn't being a grandparent one of the best things that has ever happened to you..... ;D ;D

Sitting in a lovely quiet hotel room right now and the silence is deafening. Just think by Sunday I will be visiting with the boys and the noise and fun will resume. ;D ;D

Beady, boys are wonderful, too. My granddaughter is a little mini-me, though. We are kindred spirits.

Re: What One Good Thing Did You Do For Yourself Today?

I only have little boy grandsons and let me tell you...when they are together it's "all hell break loose" time. All the hooting, yelling, screaming, arguing, laughing, all talking at once, running all over the place, crawling over and jumping on the beds/sofas/chairs, and each wanting undivided attention...it's deafening, nerve racking, and mind boggling.

Yet, I wouldn't trade these scenarios for any money in the world and thank God I can walk away, let the parents take charge, and sleep quietly in my own bed!

(Plus, I'd never admit I played a role in causing the ruckus...LOL.)

Sam, your granddaughter will remember her fun visits to you for the rest of her life. She is lucky to have a grandmother who treasures her so much.

We are at the cottage (in Canada) for a long weekend, and have 10 people visiting us. They bring all the food. They do all the cooking and clean up. Life doesn't get much better than this. ;D

Re: What One Good Thing Did You Do For Yourself Today?

I started a very low carb diet 6 days ago. I am finally mentally ready to do it altho I thought it might absolutely kill me to stop eating the foods I love, but I am surviving!!!

Today I had some melon, cashews and ricotta cheese mixed with low fat jello, gag gag gag.

Im finally getting a little more tolerant of these new blah foods.
If anyone has some really easy suggestions , I mean like right out of the bag or box snacks I would be eternally grateful! Thankyou :barf:

Ronda, You were my inspiration!

Hi Nonie, I know what you mean. CONGRATULATIONS

I was thinking of starting the post with 3 minutes on new diet and then do it minute by minute. ;D

I had requested one of the gastro surgeries and MD said no.

I have a refrigerator full of low carb foods except for green leafy veggies that have hardly any calories. Not one of the foods I am allowed to eat.

Re: What One Good Thing Did You Do For Yourself Today?

I have found that the easiest weight-loss program for me is to eat everything you enjoy but cut your servings in half. Lessen your food intake and that does it for me.

Unfortunately, meds can play a role in added weight which can be a losing battle.

barb

PS: What good thing did I do for myself today? Didn't divide my servings!! yummmmm j/k

Re: What One Good Thing Did You Do For Yourself Today?

I have been working diligently everyday on reading emails I receive and responding to them. I was up to close to 300 (computer problems) - I am happy to report that I am now down to about 86.

I respond each day to all the important emails and the rest seem to build up.

When I wake up tomorrow and turn on my computer it will be up to about 98 and then on Monday, after I ready and responded to Sunday's emails - I don't even want to think about it.

Most of the emails are related to professional organizations I belong to and I feel I must read all of them - more of a compulsion I think then a necessity.

Anyway, I am down to a double digit number.

Had a great weekend at the Lake cottage (in Canada). We had 10 people up for the long weekend, lots of partying. Not as much fun as being in TV, but not so bad.

Now I'm like Nonie and diving into a diet. Well, actually, I'm contemplating a diet. Not quite the same thing. Nonie, keep me motivated!

Hyacinth Bucket 08-04-2008 11:46 PM

Re: What One Good Thing Did You Do For Yourself Today?

Nonie ditto - it is going to get worse in the coming 10 days. I have to evaluate 3 Luaus and 3 dinner cruises. Luaus will be easy, dinner cruises - that is another story.

Nonie, I lost some fat but it found me again. People say " Sam, you don't have wrinkles."
Guess why??? Hint: I stopped by Sweetbay tonight. Fairies had placed ice cream, oreo's and M&M's in my cart. You really have to watch out for those little rascals. Now I have to eat that stuff because "waste not, want not." Anyway, a little chub puffs out the wrinkles..and the thighs...and the batwings...

Re: What One Good Thing Did You Do For Yourself Today?

Even tho I was at an older age than recommended,
I had my first colonoscopy screening yesterday. :yikes:

So after the light liquid eating before, and the fact that the drugs made me sick afterward (as drugs usually affect me), I decided today is a great day to start a better eating plan.
And I already feel lighter... (Mostly probably because my pipes are cleaned out).

So I will do my best to be a good girl and eat healthier. And lose weight...
I figure if Rhonda can quit smoking (GO RHONDA!), maybe I can do this for myself.

Re: What One Good Thing Did You Do For Yourself Today?

Good luck, Mint. Down here everyone wants to go out to eat or prepare all these fabulous meals for you.

Minty,

If I can do it anyone can! Ronda has truly inspired me. I have cut back on carbs and my clothes are starting to hang, of course so is everything else under my clothes! LOL

Re: What One Good Thing Did You Do For Yourself Today?

Nonie,
Low carbs always works best for me too.
But during this move, I'll kinda have to take what I can get.
But will eat alot less than the norm, then start the low carbs maybe by next week...
And will be extremely busy getting moved in and settled. That'll help.
And Mr. Mint will be in NC for awhile, so I won't have to cook much, just for myself...

We are going to Cancun for a week Nov. 1st,
and I'd like to at least look socially acceptable by then...
So I have 3 months to work on it...

Nonie, I thought I would lose weight for the cruise. Not a pound! >:( Well, I have about 6 weeks left. Maybe I will lose a pound. :o

I started a serious diet yesterday. (Yeah, right). Today I went to Momma Mia and the bad fairies made me eat a huge container of buttered popcorn. I don't think there is anything worse for your diet or for your arteries.

Yesterday I had clam chowder ,followed by a steamed lobster drowned in butter accompanied by corn on the cob and cole slaw.......absolutely heaven. :clap2: :clap2:

Now, about the cruise and losing weight, well I guess that is a bust. I am thinking that a good thing to do on a rainy day is go shopping for a Caftan or to. Remember girls we are wearing caftans on the cruise,(at least I will have to). I am not going to stop eating lobster while I am here in lobster country. 040
