Just treat a round as practice, and a bit of fun.

In which case, you wouldn't have a legitimate handicap, per USGA/GHIN guidelines.

What's the deal with keeping your handicap down?

GHIN ratings is used for skill level cut offs for different levels of competition.

MA Golf public course championship used to be a 16 index max for qualification, now is down to 11 if i recall correctly. We are in a MA Golf couples tournament and the index cutoff is 24 i think, with the index at the time of signup. . CoachK was won several local tournaments with an accurate GHIN with her net score, by having a great day vs her index.

so getting to the lower GHIN level, by whatever means, allows for qualification to enter. does not guarantee anything beyond that of course. . and there is no one in danger of losing to us at the couples tournament. . we are going because I have played corp tournaments with CoachK, but I want to play one real tournament with CoachK before I can't play any longer.

That would have been a perfect solution and apparently, the way things were intended.

Unfortunately, Villagers complained that the Executive Course scores couldn't be posted to GHIN.

The Villages (Developer) using it's infinite influence & a dose of money (Golfer Courses pay to be including in the GHIN/Rating system), made a deal with the USGA, who changed their regulations and brought TV's Executive Courses into the system ... to the detriment of serious golfers, but to satisfy a vocal minority and to aid in marketing.

Now Executive Course "golfers" get to report their scores and all the associated fall out that comes with rating courses that shouldn't be rated.

Does anyone want to hazard a guess, how much revenue was involved with the "USGA new rules"?

People who never thought of having an official handicap, will now sign up & pay their $35 or whatever TV charges to be in the GHIN system. How many people? 10,000? How much does the "course" pay GHIN to manage the handicap? I don't know, $10 per year?

Revenue makes it all go around, especially for a "non-profit" like the USGA and the District/Developer.

Wow, you actually answered his question instead of going off on a tangent. Thank you!
