IMO what one person finds to be good conditions may not match what you like. The same way I like my .... (oh never mind), I like my courses tight, fast and firm, some like them soft so a ball mark looks like a crater and cushy so you can scoop an iron off the fairway, yuck.

The key is that conditions change quickly, so it is nice to have a resource like TOTV so you can get opinions and plan tee times. There is a thread out here about golf course conditions tht has been around for years for some history

One observation for me is that Palmer is "ALMOST always" a notch above the others. Greens seem 18 inches faster, fairways nice, maybe cause it cost more?

In my experience pace of play is usually within the allotted time on cards. I have mentioned the following to the golf office. SOMETIMES starters seem to be part of the problem on courses that have issues. They compress the course by sending folks out early. For a 9:28 tee time the send you at 9:18 and then you wait on the third hole. Pace of play is complicated, not always the golfers fault entirely. You need proper spacing so that a group that runs into trouble (we all do) does not cause a pile up.

Then you finish nine at 11:36 and the ambassador on the back says you finished in 2:08, you are right on time. To which I ask my partner if he remembered to bring beer for the back :beer3:

...As usual, you are right on target. :clap2:
Look forward to your return.

Sorry, but playing in four hours is a rarity no matter where you are. Slow play is something that people in the golf industry are always fighting. Unless yo join some ultra exclusive country club that has 5,000 rounds a year, and you play by yourself or with a handful of friends that also play fast, you are not going to play in under four hours no matter where you go.

Our apologies to the OP, a new member asking simple questions. Behavior exhibited by some in this thread is not typical of The Villages or TOTV.

Thanks for all the input!

I am looking forward to my visit and appreciate all the input. It's great that Tv has so many golf choices but it does appear to be busy during the winter. I agree that the only way to play on a course that is not jammed packed is if it is totally private. That gets rid of the casual golfer as it isn't worth them paying the higher fees. As with most things in life it's a trade off.

The Villages motto -------"If its Free its for Me"------Its so hard to get a tee time

Having been an Ambassador for 10 years, I know that Ambassadors not fired for making someone mad.Any Ambassador that allows to pace of play to get out of hand is not doing his job. Most of the time it is one person in the foursome that causes the slow down, looking for a ball they bought at Marion Markets for $.50.

I so agree about looking for a ball they paid .50 for. If I think I may end up in the lake I use an old ball. That way I don't worry about it. I think sometimes too it is the golfers that hit into the sand trap time after time and take 3 or 4 shots trying to get out then have to rake the entire trap. Not complaining here, because most of the time I enjoy my golf and if it's slow we just find a spot under a tree and talk. A bad day at golf in the Villages is better than a good day in the winter in Ohio. :-)
