El Campeon course at Mission Inn is a tough but great course. I also like Deer Island in Mt Dora. Both are fun to play.

Default Mission Inn

I would definitely play Mission Inn. Go early and take advantage of their great practice facility. We played in December and really enjoyed it.

Mission Inn is an absolute must to play - even if just to say you have played it. I play a lot of courses outside of the Villages - if for no other reason than to see what they are like. There is a realatively new course in Ocala called Stone Bridge. It is off of 200 and just past (down the street from) Top of the World. Another great course is The Preserve. It is on 200. Takes about 30 minutes to get there. Recently played Juliette Falls in Dunnellon. Great course - a bit pricey but a great course. You might also try StoneCrest, just outside of the Villages. It is a links course (if you like them) as is Black Bear in Eustis. Both are challenging but very nice courses. You might also try EAgle Ridge (Del Webb - just north of the Villages on 441), Summerglen, on I75 just off of 484, Ocala Palms, off of 200 in Ocala - just to mention another few. I have played all of them - and some more than once. Just my 2 cents!

Default Golf Outside the Villages

Thanks for the list. Approximately what is the cost. Have guests coming later this month and need to advise them of the green fee costs.

Default Golf courses

most of the golf courses outside of the Villages you can get T-times a week in advance, in the Villages you can't pick your T-time, thats why I like going outside of the Villages during the winter plus its much cheaper. It ranges from 25.00- 35.00 for a good course. Mission Inn is a great course and the El Campeon is wonderful, but a little pricey. There are alot of nice courses out 2-10 miles outside of the Villages.

We playe El Campeon on Monday. The greens were a bit thin but very true. A great challenging course. We played the white tees and it is long. Never had less than a 6 iron in after a good drive on the par 4's. With lots of long irons. I have a 16 handicap and felt pretty good shooting a 99.

Being fairly new in TV, and really new to golf, I was wondering how TV championship courses compare to the private courses in the area, in terms of layout, attractiveness, etc. Do we have "nice" courses here, compared to elsewhere??

We are moving to TV in a few months. I play quite a bit of golf and would like to play courses like you've mentioned. Is there a group of guys who travel around to these?
Is there a way to contact you when we move there to talk further? This is my first attempt to contact someone on this site. Please let me know--I appreciate your info.
I am assuming this goes to you only and you can respond to me directly. I would like to make contact with some golfers like you or a group of similar.

momar - I think you meant this as a private message (PM)?

But yes there are groups that do travel outside of TV for golf (especially during the ON season).

There is even a league that does it twice a week at outside courses.

The prices all vary but look in the Daily Sun - a lot of them advertise there and have "specials" all the time.

Default Golf outside TV

There are many courses to choose from outside TV: The Preserve in Ocala, Plantation in Leesburg, Marion Oaks in Ocala, Harbor Hills in Summerfield, Continental CC in Wildwood and others I can't name at the moment. They all have rates much lower that TV this time of year. Check the Daily Sun during the week and you'll always see specials from courses outside TV. On the down side, you may suffer some lesser quality fairway and greens conditions, especially with the unusually colder climate this winter.

we have a group that plays once a week outside the reservation and the average cost we pay is $25, and these are nice courses (close to TV Championship caliber)...gn
