IMO, those are two separate topics. It’s simply the world we live in. While I agree it’s often very over-the-top, I don’t think it reduces respect for our service men and woman. It certainly doesn’t for me.

There is additional information about Tiger. CNN reports that, contrary to a post on this site, the police report that the SUV saved his life with its safety features

Quote:
"I do think the fact that he was wearing a seat belt and that the vehicle safety features worked as designed by the manufacturer likely resulted in either reducing his injury or saving his life,"
The police on the scene also report that Tiger was lucid and no signs of impairment. He was on his way to filming a TV program.

Quote:
Deputies responding to Woods saw no evidence of impairment, Villanueva said, and they didn't ask hospital officials to take a blood draw, he said.
He had hardware inserted into a damaged lower leg

Quote:
Orthopedic trauma specialists inserted a rod into his tibia to stabilize both the tibia and fibula bones, stabilized the foot and ankle bones with a combination of screws and pins and relieved pressure to the muscle and soft-tissue of his leg by surgically releasing the covering of the muscle, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anish Mahajan said in the statement.
I am always amazed that someone who doesn't care about a topic would come to a thread about that topic only to post that the topic doesn't deserve attention because other things are more important. If you want to hate Tiger because of his infidelity, that's fine. At least be consistent and have the same visceral hatred for all persons in public life with a well established history of adultery.

Other than that he’s pretty much been a non-entity. As for this accident I want to wait and hear more details about how you cross over two lanes and roll down a hill in broad daylight! unfortunately, with today’s media, we may never get the real story? No matter what hope he recovers.
Personally, I never get tired of the Tiger phenomena. He is the best who has ever played this game and even Jack admits to this. He won the Masters because he managed the course far better than those who were in contention. This came from his knowledge and experience on that course. When he has been able to play constantly he has been competitive. Unfortunately, because of his physical limitations he has not been able to play on a regular basis and to play at that level you need to be playing regularly not once a month or just at the majors. Go TIGER!

I don’t like to see anyone get hurt, but how this guy does not have a driver (no pun intended) is beyond me

that $35,000 car is POS the way it crushed to the windshield

His regular ride is a Porsche Carrera GT $450,000

He may have thought he was driving his car!

I heard on Fox 35 last night that prior to leaving the road, he had crossed the centerline. So it was far more erratic than just going a little wide and jumping the curb. I thought, he was lucky not to hit another car going head-on in the other lane. With the time of 7:12am, it almost sounds like he fell asleep or something in the car distracted him. Maybe being in an unfamiliar car, a new brand, he was fumbling with the radio or something inside and got distracted.

No $35,000 car, the base price for a 2021 Genesis SUV is $48,000 and the actual sale price on those can go up $70,000.

I was in law enforcement for over 40 years, and would never speculate on the cause of such a horrific accident. I only hope the best for Tiger, yes he has had some personal issues over his life, but so has everyone. He has done so much for golf, and the charitable foundations that he is involved in. I'm glad to hear from those at the scene that he didn't appear to be impaired. I'm sure blood work, at the hospital will clarify that. That leaves two other possible causes. Mechanical failure, or Operator error. The experts on the accident reconstruction team will determine that. In, either cause, from my experience from what I saw of the scene, there was definitely excessive speed involved. Thank God no one else was involved. He will be very fortunate if he is able to walk correctly when all has healed, he'll need extensive therapy. Doubtful he'll ever compete at such a high level again. Maybe the Seniors, we'll see, he has a long road ahead, and everyone is different. I wish him well.

please stop. That's how they extricated him from the car - broke thru the windshield (per LEOs) with an axe and other implement. They also say that the entire passenger compartment/ safety cage was intact and saved his life. But it will be interesting to see why his right leg was so injured...

And, I'd believe Genesis SUV was probably more like $60K.

Here he was with everything I could dream of. A well deserved success in a business he had been trained for since being a toddler. But his "adultery" was really kinda over the top. It wasn't a dalliance with another leading lady, it appeared to me to be a kind of sport of it's own. We are all entitled to our views. Statistics show that fidelity in Marriage is not as common as it was at one time.

There is something about Tiger Woods that doesn't appeal to me. Maybe his down expression on a bad shot or club pounding after not getting it where he wanted it to go. One of the things in golf I most admire, and in life too, is going ahead, after a bad shot and keeping cool, concentrating on the next shot.

He never made me want to hang his picture in our office like the one we have there of Jack Nicklaus. I could easily point to Jack to our grandson over the years and say...you'd do well to be like him. ( He fainted each time a child was born.) I am so glad to see Tiger Woods pride in his son. (Who some say is a little smart mouthed to caddies etc.)

I have had this discussion here more than once and I am always surprised by the dedication to him. Much like a political figure.

the firewall or engine perhaps collapsed into the driver foot well crushing the right leg, with the seat belt his hips shouldn't have moved forward.

Still the car at any price didn't do a great job

There are no crash tests yet done yet in the US.

The winner of the tournament gets one, will he want it?

Seriously this being a new model may very well be a mechanical failure, not driver error, time will tell.

I just hope his long rehab goes well but wonder if his back issues will be negatively impacted or not from the crash.

He had compound fractures in both legs that required screws, pins and plates in addition to a fractured ankle. I'm guessing that he'll never play golf or at least competitive golf again.

They also stated that the area of his crash was the scene of many accidents. They were not surprised to be called to another one.
