Probably a Silly Question, Nevertheless...
I'll ask it anyway...
When you want to play golf on relatively short notice, is it considered an acceptable practice for a single to just look up a tee time and sign up for one that has 1, 2 or 3 players already signed up for that tee time? I'm just getting into golf in TV. Yes...I've taken the Good Golf School...highly recommended. But I just wanted to hear it from the golfers themselves. Is this considered an intrusion of a sort? Or is it considered an acceptable, possibly even an expected, practice? And does the answer apply equally to both executive and championship courses? Oh, and one other thing...does it matter if you walk or ride? Thanks. |

IMO, acceptable, expected and welcomed...

Acceptable and expected, especially in the high season. On days when I'm on my own, I don't think twice about finding an empty slot.
Now, as a female...I avoid groups that say 3M... usually look for 1M2F or 2M1F and will take a 3F (though I prefer gold to green tees...often 3F will play green). In the summertime, I won't bust in on a group of 3...there are too many open slots. JMHO

The only issue would be that you will be encouraged to ride with a single player. If you have more than 2 carts, the extra 1 or 2 must remain on the cart path at all times. Other than that grabbing an available single is a great way to meet other golfers.

I do it everyday. So far I have meant over 300 new friends this year.

They will not object if you keep up. After six strokes if you are not in the hole, pick up your ball and move on.

Just do it-- Almost everyone you meet will be friendly and fun. In four years playing this way , my wife and I have only had to play with one real jerk. After the first hole we just ignored him

Very acceptable to do that. And any particular day if the mood strikes you to play golf, call any CC or executive course and they'll accommodate you, especially in the off season.

Jerks are hard to find on an executive course. The game does not appeal to anyone that does not have a sense of humor about their own shortcomings. The people who get angry and frustrated give up on the game because it's no fun.
A couple of weeks ago I was paired up with someone who shot 3 under and his average was 2 under. The rest of us played bogie and bogie plus. He walked and carried. It made no difference because we are all playing against the course and ourselves, 10 minutes per hole. I think just about everyone looks up to the walkers. I've never slowed a group down by walking and I don't walk too fast. There are ways to position your bag to get a head start and carrying is faster that a pull cart. |

The o.p. posted a great question, and this is what TOTV should be like!

Thanks for all the replies. Pretty much what I expected, but I wanted to be sure. And with respect to speed, I walk but I play/walk fast and that should not be a problem. I would even challenge tom to a speedgolf game some time...I carried for years and now I've pushed (not pulled) a cart for years. I'm just as fast pushing as I was walking!!
Still wondering for future reference though...would all the same comments apply to a championship course? |

All but the walking... You CAN walk the championships but the distance between many tee boxes makes it very difficult to keep up. Sometimes more than a 1/4 mile down neighborhoods and through tunnels.

Regarding walkers has anyone seen a walker carrying a sand bottle?

I have. I met someone that has a little pail that hangs on his pull car.
