Default Volusia Executive Course

Heading back to TV next week. Wondering if the course is open for play?

Played monday afternoon...really nice layout and great views...if it's windy bring the "a" game...it's a number 3 so if you're looking to really challenge yourself play in the wind and from the blacks...fine condition for such a new course, but don't expect tournament surfaces...-1 from the golds in 15+mph winds...lots of fun!

I look forward to playing it also.I heard that its a really short course on the same lines as turtle mound.I guess I will be playing form the black tees. For me hitting a pitching wedge from all the tees is not rewarding. They do have a par 4 though which I like.Anyway its always nice to play a new course. We won`t have to many new ones to play soon.

Yes it plays short from the golds. And even though it looks like a tough walk, it isn't. I played it twice and the beautiful view from the second tee is amazing. Some of the greens look like the break goes one way but when you putt it it goes the other way. I like playing golf in the mountains and this is about as close as I will get in TV for now. I especially like hammering a driver down the 3rd hole to a blind spot. You get extra mileage if the wind is blowing at your back, like yesterday at 5:30 when I played it.

Default Really short? I suppose, but it's rated a "3"...

and if it's windy it'll play like a "5"...nothing like turtle mound...

Play it now because I was told by the starter on Truman that it will be shut down in April because the grass didn't take. It is over seeded now.

I guess they where impatient. Should have been certain it was ready for play.

Default It's not the golf course that's impatient...

but a lot of the villagers that don't want to wait...had the same problem at Mangrove, Sweetgum and Palmetto...sure they could have waited, but it's easier to have them make a complaint against something they can see(bad tees and greens)and then close it....or wait to open it when to the untrained eye it looks lush and green...the squeaky wheel and grease win and then have to wait...

Golf Management delayed opening Volusia until they were comfortable that it was playable AND that opening it would not damage the course. It is heavily overseeded to compensate for the base bermuda not filling in optimally. When the overseed dies out this spring, they may need to close it to let the bermuda catch up. It's a balancing act. If you keep the overseed going, it shades the bermuda so it delays growth. If you kill off the overseed, the bermuda coverage isn't enough for good play. Just have to wait and see.

I played Volusia this past week. I walk and carry a bag. This course felt to me to be the steepest of any executive thus far. I did play from the black tees and like most players here used the standard clubs for the standard positions. it can get windy at that elevation and so most of us will have to club up.

Default Volusia

I hope to play it soon but every time I put it in and in the #1 position, NO tee time. Might be May before I get on it
