Default Smokers and golf

Let me be clear, I have nothing against people that smoke. Thank goodness we live in a free country. If folks choose to smoke that is their choice. What I want to discuss is good manners as it pertains to cigarette butts on the golf course. Today I played Briarwood and it seemed that everywhere I looked I saw cigarette butt's. In the sand traps, the fairways and the fringe's around the green's. If you have to smoke while playing golf, then your butt's are your responsibility. Bring an ashtray or ask a veteran to teach you how to field strip a butt. Smokers please, The Groundskeepers do a great job to give us beautiful courses to play on. It is extremely rude to litter them with your butts. "Well thats my story and I'm sticking to it"

Thumbs up A smoker (for now)

I am a smoker and I also get extremely upset with the inconsiderate litterbugs and their butts. I have an ashtray in the cart and I have pockets that I put my butts in until I get to a trash can or home. Unfortunately, those people make it hard for the considerate smokers and we all get painted with the same brush. Those are probably the same people that toss their empty MacD's wrappers and cups out the window on the highway. Because of them we end up with smoking bans left and right. Obviously never were in the service. Get caught throwing a butt down on the ground and you ended up policing the whole area. Maybe the ambassadors could start doing something like that or have them removed from the course for a period of time. I really hate to be punished for other's stupidity. I pay enough for my own.

This is something that pushes my button. This place is immaculate, except for the cigarette butts.

I wish you smokers would stop smoking. It isn't good for you.

It messes up this, except for cigarette butts, perfectly clean place.

Angry Agree

I started a post on Dog Poo clean up and got quite a few responses. I agree with the butts also. Last 2 weeks my grandaughter was down so we used the family pool at Truman. I was standing at the pool rail watching a golfer and made the mistake of looking in the bushes. I couldn't believe the amount of TRASH I saw. Cups, cans, bottles food boxes etc, in the bushes. Why are people trying to turn this beautiful community into a dump. When you ride over the wooden brige on Morse N/O 466 look over the sides the same thing If you can't clean up after yourself PLEASE go back to where you came from !
That's all I have to say!

Default It is not clean like usual???

English Ivy who is here full time said the same thing to me Skip. She said I didn't look very carefully. But I hadn't seen it. Have things degraded this summer while we are away???

I didn't notice any unusual trash last week Gracie.Seemed as clean as usual.

I've never even noticed the butts on the golf course as mentioned but maybe I've just never looked.

Default Have not seen much trash around the Lynnhaven pool and post office.

Cigarette butts have not been a big blight around Lynnhaven's pool and postal center.

I did see them around Doggie Doo Run Run, however, since they put in "no smoking" signs, the butts are fewer and fewer. Still see people smoking at Doggie Doo Run Run, but the "no smoking" signs are not posted in such a way as to ban smoking all over Doggie Doo Run Run. They just seem to be aimed at stopping people from smoking near neighbors of DDRR's property.

Have not seen that many butts around the Villages' squares either.

I do not golf so I do not go onto the golf courses.

I may well get yelled at for this, but....

From many of the previous posts, it seems TV is becoming more and more a favorite vacation destination with no ties with anyone here. As such, those simply enjoying our community as a fun spot to visit have no stake in the 'care and feeding' of it. Some who come here, even on the LS Preview, have no intention of ever living here. It just makes for a very affordable vacation.

Please understand, I am not saying that all who do not live here do not contribute all they can to keep this a great place. I just think that actual property owners, full or part-time, (not all, but most) take pride in what we have here and strive more to keep it that way.

Either way, it's everyone's responsibility. When we see something amiss, we need to make an effort to fix it...even pick up pieces of trash.

They're probably the same people who leave their broken tees behind and don't repair their divots.

I was hoping that this thread would not morph into a thread concerning all areas of The Villages that are trashed by inconsiderate people, whether they be residents or Villagers. My hope was that we could stick to my original intent and that is, Good manners on the golf course. Having good manners on the course is an integeral part of the game. Fix ball marks, repair divots, rake sand traps, never step on your playing partners line when on the green and please do not just flip your butts where you stand. I have made up my mind that I am not going to spoil my round anymore by arguing with people that have no concept of fair play. I love the game of golf and The Villages is one of the best places that I have found to play it. Some of you may not agree with my solution to the problem but, here goes. The heck with the inconsiderate boobs that refuse to be told how to behave on the course. If I see a problem, a ball mark, a divot, an unraked trap or a discarded butt, I simply fix it, rake it or pick it up. If we all did this then I believe that the problems are solved. The bad guys, once again, get away with it but, once again, we get to play on beautifully maintained course's. Lets just have fun out there.

Sounds like a plan Beartrack.

I must be lucky. When I've visited TV I usually go out early and play with any group that will have me. I've witnessed nothing but good 'golfmanship' so far. Maybe the regulation length courses are different? That is what I usually play.

PS> Last week I played Cane twice and it was in fantastic shape.

Default Butts

I play championship courses at least 3 times a week and see cigarette and cigar butts (disgusting) thrown on the course. Also unraked bunkers, unrepaired ball marks and unfilled divots. Not all the time, but enough to make you wonder why some people feel they don't have to be courteous to others. Most people are not offenders, but it is the one bad apple situation. Saying all that....I could not imagine living anywhere else.

OK !! If we are going to get yelled at , Lets make it worthwhile......
Speaking of cheap vacations , I have two sets of friends that come to the Villages for two weeks and one month respectfully.........They both rave about what a cheap vacation it is and they have no intention of buying anything here ..........I vote for raising golf and pool fees for visitors and renters to a level that supports pool monitors to a full time level to police our amenities......ALSO stop handicap stickers on golf carts until such time that they can be monitored .........Supposedly they can't run their carts to within 15 ft. of the greens , no one adheres to these regs. I actually saw a guy (who could walk better than I can) drive over a green to get around a golf bag laying the edge ......Again I vote to set aside one or two courses for handicapped golfers..........I know this isn't a popular view but the only other alternative it is to give the Ambassadors (hallway monitors) some authority so they can escort violators off the course..........
Ok , Start yelling , If you don't agree something must be done, then lets hear your ideas...........

Fumar the exasperated ............

Oh great and powerful Fumar, if you didn't dislike dogs you'd be close to perfect.

There is a lot of merit in what you say.

I don't like for people to take lifestyle visits who have no interest in moving here and I don't like people who are far too young to retire taking lifestyle visits. AND I surely don't like people coming here and not respecting our lovely place by throwing trash around. Grrrr.

Make believe someone was too young to retire but went on a LSV or two with the intent of working for a dozen or so years after moving to TV. Let's say he/she wanted to work in the hospital and let's say that he/she was an RN. And let's say that he/she trained to be an RN just to move to TV.

Oh wait, I think we know someone like that
