To the basic question the OP had (and ignoring the boorish behavior by the man he encountered).... On the exec courses I know a lot of people who feel pressured and uncomfortable when the group behind them pulls up to the tee boxes before their group has finished teeing off. I personally prefer that the group hangs back to a safe spot before the black tees until our group finishes teeing off. Space, quiet, prying eyes, etc... To me it is an etiquette issue. I think more women, especially newer golfers, are bothered by this than perhaps experienced male golfers. JMHO of course.

I'm sorry, I just don't get it. First of all , it's not a "safety" issue until you get within 5 feet of a golfer swinging a club. The etiquette is pretty simple---don't move or make noise while another golfer is hitting. As far as approaching a tee while everyone is just waiting anyway---not etiquette rule there at all. For those who don't want
to be "watched", you're probably getting "watched" by the group behind whether they are 10 or 30 yards away. Get over it. Are you afraid they will ridicule you?--No good golfer does that, so those who would aren't so good themselves, they just think they are. (BTW, they are probably the same golfers who are taking 2 shots, putting out 2 footers, scoring 8's and 9's on a hole and talking non-stop) Remember, no one has shot under par their first time playing (except maybe Tiger). It took Jack Nicklaus 3 years to break 70, and that was with daily play and practice and lessons from Jack Grout as a teenager---if you are a beginner, play and enjoy the game, obey the etiquette and ready golf yourself, and don't worry about the guy behind you

If the group in front of you is a hole behind, in The Villages the last thing you want to do is to invite the group behind to play through.

In The Villages I would suggest the "Pace of Play" section be written as follows:
If the group in front of you is a hole ahead, pick up the ball and drop it on the green and continue from there. no penalty, just to keep the group moving

The tees will never bottleneck and as golfers improve they will enjoy the game without pressure.

In the "Priority on the Course" section: "Unless otherwise determined by the Committee, priority on the course is determined by a group's pace of play. Any group playing a whole round is entitled to pass a group playing a shorter round. The term 'group' includes a single player."

On a champ course, my pace of play rule would be----If you catch up with the group ahead and no one is ahead of them. Go around them and skip the hole. This will also help everyone behind you.

Seems rather simple ..........wait till the group ahead has left the tee, to move to the tee.

:eclipsee_gold_cup: :mademyday: they're also known as the "entitled ones". They are why I rarely play the execs; more a**es play the free courses rather than paying to play the championships. I've paid my dues with having to deal with idiots and hostile people; I can walk away from them now! 😉

I couldn't agree more. I played a couple execs last April with a neighbor, but other than that I think the last time was when I was 11. So normally, I wouldn't really care what goes on there. I did get a bit unlucky and had to have neurosurgery on my neck 3 weeks ago and so far have only 20% use of my left arm, which might make golf a bit difficult, so I may have more execs in my future than I was planning on, assuming I can swing at all. As far as the idiots and hostile golfers go, I grew up playing public courses on Long Island, so I think I can handle them
