I would support a reduced, simplified flat income tax with this as well as a national sales tax, in order to capture more illegal income (drug dealers have to buy food and clothes) as well as have everyone pay something, but that will never happen.

And yes, SS and Medicare needs to be phased out to the greatest extent possible. There, I said it.

Medicare is like the VA health system - they are NOT perfect, just better than the insurance industry Vampire Squids.

Also, if you are concerned about “rich” people paying their “fair share”, they tend to purchase more expensive cars, etc and they would pay more. Solves almost all issues with a tax code that is unbelievably complex and unfair.

Illegal gang money can be stopped without turning the tax collection system upside down and favoring even more so the WEALTHY...........by better border enforcement and a greater budget for the FBI and local Police and better Police training. But, here we go again THOSE common sense proposals would require HIGHER PROPERTY TAX and income tax which the WEALTHY are reluctant to pass. And who can blame them? It is human nature to be SELFISH.........and they are in SPADES !

Nice job not reading the bill and passing judgment anyway. Every proposed flat tax, consumption tax, national sales tax, whatever iteration, has always had credits and deductions for the poor, including this one. So it's not regressive. The only regressive tax was implemented by FDR.

i disagree !

That is a RATIONALIZATION for upending the PROGRESSIVE tax system so hated by the HAVES.

Big FAT........... YES !

A similar system as this is used in Europe. Unlike here in the US where a tax (sales and/or user) is added at point of ultimate consumer purchase, a tax is added as a good is created/manufactured, at each step along the way. From the processing of raw material, to each process as something is made a tax is added. The result is that taxes are rather "hidden" in the cost of the ultimate purchase price. Taxes of this kind are really "regressive" and hit those of low income much harder than those who are wealthy. This is why states controlled by the wealthy have sales taxes rather than income taxes. The income tax was designed to spread the burden of taxation more fairly, the more you make, the more you pay.

Another big FAT.......YES !

The IRS agents will go where the BIG money is being lost to the Federal Government and AS SUCH to you the taxpayer.......they will go after the new Bernie Madoffs of America. Very few middle-class people will face an audit. That is ALL propaganda put out by those that have the MOST to lose.........that would be the UBER-rich !

Most likely you have to go to other countries for that answer .....probably ones like Sweden, Finland, Norway, and New Zealand. The US was first designed so that each generation had to make it on its own. The colonists ran away from the KINGS of OLD Europe and now maybe the pendulum has swung back.

As any good and considerate WORLD LEADER should do. Being a world leader does require some humanitarian impulses to be projected.

FLAT TAX AT TIME OF CONSUMPTION! Would give incentive to think twice vs just update to the newest whatever; incentivize savings and totally eliminate one of the most corrupt, wasteful branches of the Gov. FLAT TAX ADDED AT TIME OF CONSUMPTION GIVES EACH PERSON THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE WHAT THEY SELECT AS BEING WORTH IT OR NOT AT TIME OF PURCHASE.

You mean like - fresh fruits and vegetables, meats that come from reasonable sources that can pass a health and safety inspection and are kept in proper conditions so they don't rot after a day in the household's fridge? You mean - things like the electric bill so that you have heat in the winter and at least a couple of window air conditioners in the summer? You mean - the cost of materials to repair your house after flood damage that isn't covered by substandard insurance? Or the hammer you have to buy, to make those repairs, because you can't afford a contractor or even a handyman? And the crappy internet service to provide you with a manual on your low-end smartphone on how to fix that house, because you can't afford a computer with this flat tax (AND the state fees imposed because they have to fund the cost of collecting that tax and passing it on to the feds)?

Those kinds of flat taxes? And which poor people will be able to afford these flat taxes? What will the percentage be?

Do you not understand?
There is no 'FREE' Health Care.
We are heavily taxed on income to pay for it.
About a third of the average workers weekly wage goes in tax before then they get to pay a 20% purchase tax on most goods. Food shopping and some children's stuff is exempt.
There is no such thing as a free meal!

A complex very involved issue that produces much more heat than light, my money , your money, why I don't have more money, my lunch should cost less and be bigger, whos to pay for it? my experience with "the poor" is thay make a lot of poor decisions, but then it must be the fault of the "rich" and not their lack of the ability to defer short term pleasure for long term benefit, I cannot emagine things are too bad as so many , who can not read write or speak the language want very much to come here

Sorry, but don't understand your reply to my post.
I was just pointing out that there is no 'Free' health service.
Nothing else.
