Default Electronics recycling locations?

Where can we recycle old computers and vcrs? I don't want them going to the landfill.

If you do not mind storing for a while, the county usually has a recycling event at least once (or twice) per year. I think I have seen other organizations also providing this service. Try doing a search on the word recycle or recycling on this site.
Hope this helps.

Best Buy will take some electronics for recycling.

Default Caution at Best Buy

I have a dear friend who let Best Buy recycle her computer after it crashed.

Two years later a guy called her to tell her that he was a techie who often bought used parts and had just bought a hard drive and found her personal banking and financial data, photos of her daughter and other personal sensitive information on the hard drive.

Luckily he was an honest guy. He was able to delete all that stuff and he called the Best Buy where she turned in her computer to report it . She has since been offered a very generous settlement for not going to court and suing Best Buy, which was offered by Best Buy with out any request on her part.

So find out how to delete everything, back to factory settings, and be sure that everything is washed clean. Option 2 is to take a hammer to the hard drive to ensure that your personal data isn't passed on to someone else down the food chain.

Better safe than sorry.

I like the hammer option on all electronics. Never trusted anyone to take something without thinking they would try to resell parts of it.

Thank you all for the info. I will call the county and ask where I can take this stuff.
