Opera
Carmen
The Marriage of Figaro

Stage
Man Of La Mancha
Sound of Music
My Fair Lady
Fiddler on the Roof
Jesus Christ, Superstar

... but it was hard to stick to five. Loved Phantom, Hair and Chorus Line also. (Actually, the traveling show of Hair I saw in Atlanta was terrible, but loved it on Broadway and love the music.)

On Broadway:
Camelot (in early 60's)
Les Miserables
Phantom
Chorus Line
Cats
Mamma Mia
Oops - 5+1!

Saw the King and I with Yul Brynner at the Schubert Theater in Philly back in the seventies. Fell in love with Mr. Brynner! Shall we dance. West Side Story (50th anniversary this year) and The Lion King. I go to our local high school musicals also. The kids put on great performances every year.

EVERY SINGLE one you mentioned and ...

I always cry when I hear Sunrise, Sunset. Every single time.

I love all musicals, even those not performed much anymore, Flower Drum Song, The Pajama Game....

All kinds; almost Opera like Phantom and HMS Pinafore and Madame Butterfly and galloping tromps like Carousel. I love every single one of them. And the dancing too. And the costumes...

I am good with the lyrics too on trivia games. BUT...I can't sing well.:sigh:

Oh, I forgot about The King and I! It might have to take the place of one on my top 5. Also, The Lion King was extraordinary because at all times the stage was a piece of artwork. I've never seen that before. And surely it must have had the best opening scene in the history of theater! (Pre-Lion King, I guess the Broadway production of Hair had the most dramatic opening scene.)

Has anyone heard further about construction of a real theatre in or near TV where promoters could put on musicals or operas? I think I remember on another post that something is in the air. I hope this comes to fruition.

Movin' Out -#1
Tommy-#2
Jesus Christ Superstar- # 3
Grease- #4
My Fair Lady -#5

1. My Fair Lady
2. The King and I
3. Mamma Mia
4. Miss Saigon
5. Annie - When I first moved to Chicago in the late 1970's I went to see Annie at the Shubert Theatre in the Loop wth a group of Loyola Univ. students -- we had really cheap seats up in the rafters. The kids in Annie looked like ants dancing on the stage -- that's how bad our seats were.

Everybody loves Nutcracker of course, but...

1. The Rothschilds with Hal Linden (first musical I ever saw)

3. Phantom
4. Fiddler on the Roof (another tearjerker for me)
5. Guys n Dolls

Not much of an opera fan, but talk to me about the ballet!

OK Red, if you insist. :) Do you love, "The Fantastic Toy Shop," by Rossini?? The music is to die for!

Now that you mentioned it--well technically I mentioned it, but you brought it to mind-- I think that music is going to lull me to sleep tonight. Thanks, Red.

Well, not everyone loves The Nutcracker. lol I do like The Fantastic Toy Shop better than TN. My favorite ballet is probably Firebird and I always enjoy seeing Billy the Kid. Giselle when danced right and a perfect orchestra can send shivers down my spine. Okay, better quit before I really get homesick!

I will miss the Cincinnati Ballet and the wonderful acoustics at Music Hall.

We have been so blessed in Cincinnati to have wonderful private funding for the arts.
