While working in IT desktop computer support I received a call that a users mouse was not working properly. I took up a replacement mouse and replaced it. The user asked what was wrong and I showed it to her with all the dust and dart that had collected in the mouse. Well the lady in next cube jumped up and had to stick her noise into what was going on and I told her. She went through the roof and wanted an immediate investigation as to how this was happening. I told her I would be glad to convene a meeting to look into the matter and was there anyone she would like to include. She went ballistic. I said since this was a dust problem we needed to get plant engineering involved and while we were at it the EPA needed to become involved as there may be environmental issues. With that I went back to my area and found this article on the internet as I knew this issue was not over. I made a couple of copies and waited. Within about an hour I received a call from her boss who I was good friends with and he asked if I come up to his office regarding this matter. I took the copies and off I went. This lady ranted and ranted about the time lost due to having to replace the mouse. When I got my turn to speak I just handed both of them a copy of this article. She started to read it and stomped out of the office and slammed the door almost breaking the glass. By this time her boss was rolling on the floor laughing so hard he was crying. When he was able to pull himself together he said it had been years that anyone had challanged this women and put her in her place. I was suprised that it did not end up in HR but I had her bosses support. In the next week I was given attaboys from a number of directors and even a vice president as to setting the record streight when dealing with a mouse.

Hmm, I always thought IBM stood for International Business Machines, not Indelicate Ball Memo.
