Owner Snowbirds: have zero trademark indication. Cool summers with a lake you can swim in and live to tell. Happy they got to see the leaves turn colors, sad they raked. Happy to see the first snow(if they were lucky). Then closed their up north home, possibly driving in crap weather (at least this week) to their TV home.

Smiles all around that they have the best of both worlds, for their lifestyle.

LOL, as an owner/snowflake I’ll address each of those as they all apply.

It’s not just renter snowbirds who play in the rain when it’s 40 degrees, you’ll find me there also. Why? Those are great conditions relative to up north, the courses are practically empty, a 2 1/2 round is very doable, and you can get out early enough during a short January day to finish 18 at the 9 hole rate : )

Absolutely love swimming (and fishing) in the lake, without any alligators or poisonous snakes) during the summer.

Seeing the leaves turn is nice, but I’m typically at our Villages home for the annual fall stay during peak foliage season. However, that doesn’t get me out of leaf clearing at our northern home, the family lake cottage, or my father in laws. That being said, I don’t own a rake, the Stihl BR 800 backpack blower does the trick.

Was happy to already see the first, second, and third snow of the season, and had to plow it. Been there and done that and ready to get the *&$# out of here. It was nice to have a white Christmas: )

In the process of closing up the northern home now, way too much work. Getting close to time to downsize.

The beauty of being retired is we no longer have to drive in crappy weather. We schedule a date to leave for the very long two day drive and closely watch the forecast. If we have to, we reluctantly move the trip. And we have learned the hard way, never make the drive the week between Christmas and New Years, the snowbird migration traffic that week I can be terrible.

And yes, smiles all around for the best of both worlds. That being said, we can’t wait to get our butts south, my wife slipped on the ice and went down hard this morning walking the dog and we narrowly avoided a disaster. If that’s not a sign it’s time to go south, then nothing is.

Most from UK drive in Europe as well, so we are well versed in driving on the wrong side of the road, and we know how to drive properly through a roundabout from an early age.
Probably a FROG driving wrong way in the roundabout.
Possibly drunk, or late for an appointment at STD clinic! :ho: :icon_wink:

Maybe true cause I rarely see turn signal in roundabout or 4 way stop. But, got ask yourself where all the villagers came from?

Bolsadd 12-28-2024 12:22 PM

It’s below 70 outside and they’re wearing shorts with flip-flops

It's an acquired thing. Without a change of scenery the frogs don't realize they turn into curmudgeons over time.

CoachKandSportsguy 12-28-2024 12:38 PM

The car has snow tires on it. .

KayLD 12-28-2024 02:35 PM

Swimming, laughing and having a great time in the pools when it’s cold outside. They are hardy souls, makes me smile, I love it❤️

Hplaw 12-28-2024 04:35 PM

The smile on their face is because they are happy they have not become a FROG and lost their joy for things. They smile wide watching the FROGS complain and cry over everything. They are smiling because they can have a home in both locations and can leave when the whining gets intense.

They think the speed limit on Buena Vista is 85, not 35
What they do of the MMPs is mostly unmentionable

Honking in the tunnels because hee hee hee.

Exactly! The big green signs with white arrows that show you how to navigate the roundabout must not apply to everyone lol

Some mistake the green sign for the Chinese character that roughly translates to "Free-For-All".

You know its the start of the great Snowbird Migration when sounds of horns and sirens fill the air...But alas, this year that sweet sound is being drowned out by the pop-pop-pop-pop sound of new roof shingles being installed.

tophcfa 12-28-2024 05:19 PM

You know you’re listening to a snowbird when the only thing they’re complaining about is how fast the winter goes by.

RUCdaze 12-28-2024 05:21 PM

"rustyp" hit the nail on the head! Snowbirds use directional signals! Something that Villagers and local Floridian rarely do!

In the pool when it's 45 Degrees, or is that the weekly bath day for the regulars... :jester:

55 degrees is my cut off temp for laps, because it’s about the same as the temp in the great lakes:D

FROG = I will stay until I croak. My uncle and aunt died here after living in TV for more than 30 years. They were FROGs.

They must have been in the old section near Paradise Lake? We will have been here in the Villages for 20 years in June 2025.

Traffic here is a lot safer than on US19 in Palm Harbor. Probably drove past a very bad wreck on the way to various places almost once a month.

My parents had a seasonal home for more than a decade in the Historic section on Dustin Dr. My aunt and uncle bought a home in district one in the early 1990’s.

FROG- a (F)orever (R)esident until (O)ffed by (G)od. They are staying put until they croak

Visitor: How long do you plan on living here?

Resident: This place is great! I'm going to stay forever.

God: That's what you think.

What a typical response. You think the Villages is the only place in North America with roundabouts! 🤣 the problem with roundabouts has nothing to do with where you’re from but more to do with the drivers age.

I was going to get offended by the roundabouts comment (as a snowflake from Massachusetts). But in Mass, we really have rotaries, which are a bit different. They have started putting in roundabouts but ours are smaller and usually only 1 lane. I don't know that I've seen a roundabout in MA with 2 lanes clearly marked like we have in the Villages. It took me a bit to get used to it completely. I'm still not an expert. In MA the big ass rotaries have no lanes, no painted lines. You get in and it's then a free for all. Sort of like Clark in European Vacation.

There are a few roundabouts that have caught me off guard. They are the ones where to take the second exit you have to be in the left because the right lane disappears (only with painted lines).

A big mistake I have made and will warn others, wait until both lanes in the roundabout are clear before entering. I've thought I could enter because the car in the roundabout was in the middle/left and I was on the right. But that car could be exiting and you could be going to your second exit. I've cut someone off and only realized my error after thinking about it.

Those unspeakable reprobates.

Being a relative newcomer, I do those things as well. I guess I'll have to wear a button or something so people now I'm a full timer.

It takes me time to have a big smile on my face from ear to ear because of trying to hide that I am a snowbird because of the dislike from many of the full timers

When I am told that as a full timer, you just have to stay inside in the summer the way you stay inside up north in the winter. My answer to that that is I get to stay outside ALL year in comfortable weather. What is not to like, when you are a snowbird?

That above, is a snowbird. Some are more touchy then others.

Always compare stuff to "back home", which, of course, they think is better.
