We had a youngish priest who came to our small town. His "claim to fame", at least in my age group (teenager at the time), was that he would invite teens to the rectory and smoke pot with them! I have never heard that kind of story before or since, but it's NOTHING but true. I know because some were classmates of mine who frequented the "rectory parties". How that was ever allowed to go on is beyond me, because if you know anything about a small town you know everyone including the police knew what was going on. I guess arresting a priest was off-limits and maybe the powers that be thought it was a good way to get teens to come church. :ohdear:

We had a younger parish priest who ran the CYO and the musicals. I was in both and went on 2 CYO trips to Miami and LA SF and Denver. We made a lot of money and had a lot of fun putting on musicals. I have many fond memories of those years. The younger priest seemed to enjoy the company of one of the chaperones, my friends older sister who was the school nurse. I think I left nothing to the imagination,,,well maybe somethuing,
.

Whoops! I wish I would have left that little bit of NOTHING go. K would have never known. Guess you can say I have more than my radar on today - I have KADAR.

We had a younger priest who could say a mass in 20 minutes...I can't describe how popular he was. He also had a very good "friend" who spent a lot of time at the rectory but I am sure that NOTHING happened. :icon_wink:

My goodness, only 3 of us on here and the stories we can tell. Obviously there has been a lot more than NOTHING going in the church over the years!

Okay, so here's a NOTHING story that happened to me a couple of weeks ago -

When I work my long day on Wednesdays, my son will often call me on my drive home to see what I'm planning to do for dinner. Usually he knows it's NOTHING so we will usually plan to meet up and have dinner out somewhere. Well, that particular Wednesday I was not feeling well. In fact, this was the time period when I first came back from vacation and for about 3 weeks I had pretty much no appetite and most food made me sick just to look at it or smell it. As I explained this to my 31 year old son, apologizing for not wanting to go out with him, he responds by saying, "So you're not pregnant, are you?" Well I was so taken aback, I just kind of chuckled and said, "Noooo, I doubt that", kind of questioning in my head you're kidding, right? So I get home and proceed to tell my husband what had just happened. He asked me, "Well did he laugh afterwards?" And I said, "No, that's what I thought was weird. You don't suppose we never told him the rest of the story, do you?"

My husband thought about it for a minute and said, "Don't say anymore about it. Don't even bring it up. If he doesn't know any better just let him worry about having to share his inheritance."

There was a nothing radio show in th 70's:ho: that told a daily story. They tried to make it interesting and engage you but before they tole the ending they would break for commercial ---and begin the next segment with "And now for the rest of the story"----that's what you did.

When I used to go in to do the report the housekeepers would tell me all kinds of stories and not about NOTHING. Everyone just pretended it didn't happen because they were priests and because no one wanted to lose a 20 minute mass.

fw102807 08-25-2018 03:31 PM

It's going to take K an hour to catch up on all this NOTHING. Tom is turning us all into story tellers.

Yeah, I wish he didn't have to come in so late. What a long day. Although he may be having some fun at dinner or after dinner with his not so NOTHING brothers. And then he has to check in with the Mrs......or at least he better be or I'll have to write up another priority list.

Hey, maybe I could baffle the powers that be there and call in a NOTHING emergency and get him here early. Nah, too many people need him way more than NOTHING.

Don't worry, K, do what you have to do. We'll always be here for ya. Just remember though, the lights may be on when you get home but NOTHING may be happening. We're wearing ourselves out here - lol

that's him. I had a tv but it was stolen when I lived in Newark. Nothing else from my room was stolen and it's a long story I will tell some day. But if I couldn't sleep I would listen to Paul Harvey.

another nothing story
On the first day of grade school every year they barricaded both ends of the street, no traffic. We all had our new outfits and bookbags, pencils and erasers. The principal Sister Honour had a clicker. 400 kids, laughing, talking and fidgeting stopping instantly with her 2 clicks. We heard she kept a spanking machine in her closet. She said good morning, we prayed and did the salute.

Sometimes classes were divided or combined and sometimes teachers were switched so you never knew if you were getting a nun or a lay teacher. I think that's why the year started with a prayer. We were all praying for a lucky draft pick.

When Sister Honor called your name you got in a line. After the last name she named the nun or teacher and to see the faces on the kids said it all. Some kids were shaking in their boots walking into the building while others were skipping, singing "Hi Ho, Hi. Ho." As if they had the year off.

Here's a skill worth nothing. In high school for the last 2 years I hung out with a girl and 3 other couples. If someone took a a swig of soda I could say something or make a look and they would force themselves to hold it in until it came out their nose. The others would give me the equivalent of high five at the time. My only special skill. And I couldn't put it on a job application.

Sadly my movie spree is over. I would go to the movies once a year which is close to nothing. I went 50 times in the last few months. I have options but none of them are very good.

Speaking of movies, did you see the Mr. Rogers one? I can't remember if you responded in that thread or not. I just saw it tonight. It was really good. I can see why some people said they cried - NOTHING but touching at times.

Yeah, sorry to the convert for all the Catholic bashing. It actually started on another thread and was carried over to here. I'm trying to steer NOTHING in another direction with Mr Rogers. Much tamer subject.

So how was your day? What's going on out there? You don't seem to have much downtime this time around......long days for you.

Ugh.....that's NOTHING but frustrating.

Yeah, fw and tomwed have been great today - really entertaining. Fw will be busy until at least Wednesday with her grandson so not sure how much she will be around. I was surprised she got in so much time today with preparing for their arrival. Hopefully Nucky will be with us in a day or 2 to pick up some of the slack. Otherwise, you may hear NOTHING but tomwed and I telling stories and talking about movies.

I did. I didn't appreciate his genius until I saw that movie. Seseme Street came on after Mr Rogers in my house and that had all the bells and whistles and celebrity guests. I couldn't understand why Mr. rogers looked like it was made in a third world country. He had a vision and nothing was too difficult to explain, divorce, assassination, racism. It's timeless and if you are member of amazon you can watch every episode. So if you got little ones in the family........

They’re trying to get this thing wrapped up before a new incident management team comes in. They seem to think longer days will accomplish that. Me, not so much.

My husband and I said the same thing. Obviously I knew NOTHING because I always thought it was kind of a dorky show. I had no idea he covered current issues of the day like that. When I was in college I lived right down the street from him and had friends who knew him and his wife very well and even vacationed with them. So through them, I came to know what a wonderful man he was but never had the pleasure of meeting him myself. Still this movie was very revealing to me about how great a man he really was. Glad we watched it.

Thanks for the info about amazon. I was wondering about that, actually even for myself let alone the little ones. His messages to me seemed both timeless and ageless.

Kenswing, best to put something on in case a hot ash falls, you know. NOTHING more important than safety. I’m staying out of the religious conversation, I don’t want to be controversial or argue with anyone. I feel so bad for the victims and am speechless really. NOTHING went on like this when I was a practicing Catholic years ago that I knew of.

FW, I would have lent you a couple of grandchildren weeks ago, damn wish I knew, lol....have fun

Peace Out!

8 hours to go till home Mrs Abby!

Yaaay, Nucky, that's what I want to hear! The only thing better would be if I was there waiting for your arrival. Safe travels today.

Today is Sunday, August 26th. I think we're on Day 5 or 6 of K's 2nd tour of fire duty. Almost halfway to home for him. Hope he too has NOTHING but another safe day out there.

Looking back on this thread I think Day 6 was wishful thinking on my part.......more like Day 5. Why does it feel like the days go by NOTHING but slow when you're away? :sigh:

I had NOTHING but a dream that our old friend and bestest buddy was beating the hell out of a Killer Whale near Mary Ann’s Island last night. I miss our old buddy and wish he was paroled for one last try, solitary confinement if it doesn’t work out, for him not me you NOTHING silly GOOSES!

It was only a dream and he was just trying to get the WHALE to cough up MARY ANN!

Nucky 08-26-2018 06:44 AM

Up a lot last night with NOTHING but leg cramps. Holy SH*1 BATMAN, is that painful or what? Haven’t had that in years. Search leg cramps on TOTV’S better than Web MD. Pickle Juice, soap under the covers, hydration the best answers to this dilemma.

Safe, fun day to all. Have a good time FW.
