I'll be getting the full $1200 based on my income.

$200 will go to pay this month's credit card bill, to give us a little breathing room. Huzzah!

$200 for new clothes. I need shorts, a bathing suit, a belt.

$200 for a few "better" take-out dinners, maybe from Bonefish or similar. Those kinds of places are a luxury for us.

$100 for new garden stuff. More potted plants, more pots to put them in, a new ratchet clipper since mine isn't ratcheting like it should anymore.

I -might- spring for a year of Netflix with $120. Jury's out on that, maybe I'll get Hulu instead. Or maybe both!

$150 on new skin care and cosmetics. That's a yearly luxury expense that used to be no big deal when I worked full time. Definitely need new eye cream, I'm almost out!

The rest will be for "extra" dining out, and will supplement my grocery money so I can splurge on the organics, which I prefer, but can't usually afford on a regular basis.

Buying stocks has virtually no benefit to the companies themselves. And it certainly won't help their business grow. If you want to support a certain company go buy some of their products. This way you help the company, the distributor, the retailer and the employee.

When you buy stock you're basically buying part ownership in that company. The thing is at these prices the company isn't selling shares. The shares you want to buy are coming from other investors who are selling their part ownership in the company. The actually company gets no benefit. The only person that benefits is the person who sold the shares.. And you because you now have an equity stake in that company.

No product was sold. No store made a profit. No employee made a commission. The transaction only took place between you and the person/institution who is selling the shares.

You're not actually putting any money into the market[place. If the stock price goes up you're actually going to have more money that you started with. Of course if the price goes down so does your investment.

I am an owner in said company - and that’s fine with me.

Employees get to maintain their jobs and produce items we all need - light bulbs, cars, medication, cereal, etc. Stores will make profit when item manufactured is sold.
