I was actually able to see the correct colors! You have to do it quickly - look -between- the lines and jump from one ball to the next while doing so. If you do it fast enough your eyes won't notice the colored lines, and will notice the amber space between them (the balls).

So I put this image in photoshop and pulled out all the RGB lines. There may be a couple extra color pixels in there but most of it is gone.

I'd say those are all the same balls.

I copied this image and put it in PowerPoint. Then I zoomed to 400%. Lo and behold, all the balls appeared to be the same color. Amazing.

I scrolled down each line of balls. Looking at one line at a time, I could see they are all the same color. Neat!

Sight is not at all simple. No shortage of diagrams of what an eye looks like but sight involves your brain. Your brain fills in details. Actually digital cameras do the same.

As in a view camera, your eye actually sees the world upside down. I can't help it. It could not be more clear that normal for most is a state of confusion.

There is a great Ted Talk about how we live in a world that is not as it appears. We evolved to see the world in a way that helped us survive, and our brains can only analyze so much vision per second. So, it tends to make assumptions based on experience. That results in a lot of optical illusions like this one.

A lot of what we think we know is affected by our perception of the world. I find optical, audio illusions to be a constant reminder to not accept things at first glance.

I printed the picture, to copy it in needlepoint. This one will be fun to make.
