We bought 2 magnolia trees (very young ones) when we 1st moved here 6 yrs ago. The man we bought them from said do NOT plant close to your foundation...make sure you have them away from the house due to the root system. We have a Live Oak in our front yard (put in by the developer), which is a good distance away but I can see your point. I've observed what you talk about many times here!!
