Brown spots on grass
Hi, we have a villa in the Village of Duvall and the grass there is turning brown in large areas. I have Massey Lawn Care to fertilize and bug and disease control for it. But it still is turning brown. Massey is saying they are going to put some root stimulator(?) on those areas. I had some family and friends look at it and there does not appear to be any grubs there. We do not live there full time yet and we are trying to find out what is wrong. There is plenty of rain and we water 45 mins. a zone once a week like everyone else so supposedly it is not from lack of water. Any one have a clue as to what is happening?

Re: Brown spots on grass
Chinch bugs? That seems to be the biggest culprit around here. Another possibility is weed killer. Even those that say they don't kill grass, only weeds can be confused by our "grass." To my mind, crabgrass is crabgrass regardless of what other name you give it. I think some of the weed killers agree with me.

Re: Brown spots on grass
I don't know what kind of grass you have, but my friend lives in Tall Trees and has Zoysia grass and she has brown spots also. No one can figure out what is wrong, but I have an educated guess - she recently had her house pressure washed and the guy used bleach and walked around the house spraying the bleach - the patten on her grass looks like that might be the problem. Just a suggestion though -

Re: Brown spots on grass
We have Zoysia grass also and I hope someone comes up with an answer because that's just what we have been talking about. We water regularly, we've had lots of rain, but still some brown spots. Any experts please???? Help????

Re: Brown spots on grass
After one year with Massey my husband switched to Leeco. Just yesterday we asked Leeco about the brown spots and we were told we should fill the holes with white sand that I guess you can purchase at Lowe's or Home Depot. We are going to give it a try.

Re: Brown spots on grass
I once read that Empire Zoysia takes 2 summers to develop a strong root system to hold up under unfavorable times of the year. My yard is in its 2cd summer and is improving with age (like me and wine). I recently installed a fertigator system and am anxious to see if any improvement happens soon. Remember that sand has no nutritional value at all and relies on fertilizer to feed whatever is planted in it. Make sure you are either in a regular fertilizer program or do it yourself with some granular designed for Zoysia Handie :joke:

Re: Brown spots on grass
If you have St Augustine grass, usually it's chinch bugs. If you have zoysia many have talked about it being a fungus.
