For quickest results, use the search feature at the top of the page, it will work for anything you would want to know. Here's a head start;

I've never hired an exterminator, I have lived in TV for eight years and I grew up in Florida. Two products I use;

This bug spray is $4.44 at Lowes and they 68 in stock at the store on 466A. Spray it along the floor at all the entrances to your home. The sliding glass doors, the front door and the door from the garage.

The Villages Florida

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Spectracide...ntrol/50040952

This powder is $3.28 at Lowes and they have 16 in stock. Put this powder on the floor behind your refrigerator and stove and in the garage somewhere that animals cannot reach, we put it behind the washer and dryer. There is a similar product at Walmart called Roach Away, which is what I'm using, but they are identical.

The Villages Florida

https://www.lowes.com/pd/Hot-Shot-Ma...ler/1000609657

The only time I might see an ant, is after a big rain storm and if so, usually in the bathroom. This product is available at Publix for $4., it's a small bottle, if you see ants put a small amount of this somewhere on the floor in a corner, you'll find dead ants within a couple of hours, they will come out and drink this stuff and die on the spot.

The Villages Florida

Your Welcome!

We use Deans, if i ever see a bug (happened once in 6 years), they are out the same day to spray with pet friendly products, very happy with the results.

I use Massey, but they call it pest prevention. I think the term "exterminator" has been replaced with pest control or prevention. I guess it sounds more humane. Bugs are people, too.

On the link to an past thread, a poster named Kellyjam said they've used Superior for 5 years for bugs, irrigation and fertilization and they were very satisfied.

Moved in today also, Masseys was out within the hour wanting to upset me on prevention and fertilizers.

What is the feeling about Masseys, it seems a bit expensive - so, I am going to do some research. I will be watching this thread.

Typically, if you ask five people you will get at least ten different opinions.
First think about your ability. personality and interest. Options are everything from hiring a firm to do it all or doing it all yourself. Even if you choose to hire a firm to do it all you will end up being a sort of foreman-was it done-was it done properly.
We have a,"pro," do the mowing and edging. Reason more than anything we do not have space to store a mower etc. We've had two different guys in five years. One, we paid at the first of the month. He took the money and simply disappeared. The other, we like him BUT, the quality of his work this time of the year, with all the rain your lawn should really be mowed twice a week. No pro will do that. Our guy, this year, one excuse after the other, divorce, mower issues etc. He is mowing once every ten days or so-that is not good for the lawn.
Chemistry I do myself. What to do and when to do it-it is all available information on the internet. Equipment, we have 5,000 sq foot of lawn and I use a simple handheld scotts spreader. My costs are far lower than what a."pro," will charge you.

You state you are new. My advice, avoid signing any long term contracts. Some of these,"pros," will attempt to get you to contract for a year. My advice-don't let the door hit you in the .......... on the way out.

I have Massey for several services. They are expensive, but they are dependable. Also, I only pay them when they actually perform a service, like lawn fertilizer or pest treatment. I was going to hire Dean's, but they require that you give them a credit card to charge whenever they choose to. They said they didn't want my business any other way. If you ever have a problem, Massey will be there the next day. Yes, expensive, but a good company. Never, ever, ever, pay any company in advance, or for an annual contract.

We’ve been using Deans since 2005, and have been happy with their service. On several occasions we’ve called them and they were there within 2 hours.
