Default Homemade Weed Killer That Works!

Someone in my neighborhood posted a message about a homemade recipe that kills weeds effectively. I can't wait to try it and I wanted to share it with everyone here in TV. I hate using chemicals like Roundup and I hear this actually works. Just make sure you use Epson Salt and not table salt as the table salt will not allow any future plants to grow in that space.

Here is the recipe:

1 Gallon Vinegar (white vinegar)
2 Cups Epson Salt
1/4 cup of Dawn Dish Soap( the Blue Original)

"Just mix and spray in the morning after the dew has evaporated. Check after dinner and assuming there is no rain, the weeds are either wilted or are gone.

Sure beats the price of Round Up. By the way, I pour the mixture into a spray bottle. It will not go bad so you can use it till the mixture is all gone."

My husband did this and it worked very well.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like a great alternative to chemicals.

Just be very careful — if it seeps into the ground it will kill any surrounding plants, more so than Round-Up. Ditto if you accidentally spray a plant. But if used carefully, the environment will thank you.

It’s a weed killer. Being a cockroach, it would probably lap up the vinegar, roll in the salt and wash itself in the detergent.

In all seriousness, do you mean the palmetto weed or the palmetto palm? No to the palm. Probably yes to the weed but you would also kill any surrounding grass. This is a spray best used in areas not near other plants (driveways, landscaped areas with good distances between plants).

Redwitch, you are a hoot! But that's what I thought she meant too.

Thanks for posting the additional info on precautions.

I expect someone to start a thread soon on genetically engineered plants. I eat them all the time. I did have "an incident in December" but hey.

I used this stuff for a while and then it dawned on me I was adding quite a bit of salt to the soil. I do not think once added salt ever goes away and if you keep adding it you had best be prepare to start growing dune grasses at some point. Do we have any botanists or agricultural engineers out there who can offer commentary ?

Yep . I use it all the time but I find it takes longer than what is reported. Still..to save the Environment and $$ too..... and by the way...
Monsanto makes Round-Up and BAYER (YUP...THE ASPIRIN-FOLKS) Is buying Monsanto.. Hmm...would ASPIRIN work better laced with a little Round-Up?
