(I have also tried using a large lens to focus the sun"s light on weeds. Another failure.)

Regular propane torch doesn't work the same. Even if it did, your back would be hurting from leaning over after 5 minutes. $25 on Amazon is a bargain.

Another expert, Mike Orzolek from Penn State, recommends that flaming weeds two to three weeks apart. Flaming will kill annual weeds completely, but does not kill the roots of perennial weeds. Often, gardeners will see new shoots a week or so after flaming and additional treatments can deplete the roots, killing the weeds.

That's good to know. It probably explains why I need to do a torching every 3-4 weeks. No problem, it takes 15 minutes or less to do the entire job.

Yes most everything made in China even parts assembled in USA those parts probably came foreign country where labor 1.50 to 5 dollars hour or pennies for piece work most likely, and mostly from China. Thanks to our federal government allowing it 50 plus years ago. USA created that monster all for KBs and greed. All scrupulous countries know we are weak and gullible and easily manipulated to their advantage if there something in it for ones in charge. Plenty of US citizens lobbying for China.

How much do you save by refilling? Since a new one is $5, I'm not going to take the risk.

Last I brought 20 pound propane it was $18.95 so by my calculations less than dollar. When buy the small tanks most of money in making the tank. Propane probably cost them less than dime for 1 pound?

I still don't have an answer for those teeny-tiny weeds that pop up everywhere. They are too small and close to other plants for any chemical and certainly for the flame thrower. And my husband would never trust me with fire. He barely trusts me with a spray bottle.

That organic recipe soaks into the soil and will spread with rain and irrigation. Will then kill other wanted landscaping such as shrubs and flowers until it dilutes sufficiently.

Round up can be sprayed next to flowers and shrubs and trees. It only kills what it directly lands on. It gets absorbed. Sunlight makes it inert, so zero spread to unwanted areas.
Kills any type of weed, root and all, so it does not grow back.

Ok been about month since I’ve been weed burning, here’s my final review. The one I brought works pretty good hardly no flameouts, if it does flame out I was within inch of ground also little short for me, I have to bend over little to get within 3” or so from weeds. 16 oz of propane for my yard I get about 5 rounds of burning. For me to be cost effected I have to refill bottles for around 1 dollar vs $5 or so to buy another bottle.

Hardly no weeds in my yard, new sprouts popup every few days, new sprouts are easily zapped vs and established mature weed. On established weeds takes 3 or seconds to burn it down. I think it also burns seed up reducing new sprouts of that type of weed? Torching not for let’s say unfamiliar with no general knowledge. The heat can melt plastic irrigation and exposed landscape fabric quickly, it can also flare up dried out twigs/leaves if accumulated which can just step on to extinguish. Of course I don’t get close to natural gas meter. For me it works, cost wise IMO more than round up seems unless I refill bottles myself which I have the ability and capacity, but I really haven’t investigated differences.

Bottom line I wouldn’t recommend it due to not knowing the knowledge and capabilities of persons I don’t know. I hope this answered some questions it someone else considering flaming weeds?

What about a two-part operation? Round-up to kill the offending weeds, then in about a week or so just torch the dried parts on top of the ground. Shouldn't take much flame at all to singe off the leftovers.

I’ve got 1/2 jug of roundup left. Use it up on hard spots, don’t plan on buying another, but we see how it goes.

I’ll still use it but won’t recommend it due to the inability of people I don’t know. Works fine for me.

Ok, final results with weed burner. I had about 4 cycles of burning weeds in my rock yard. For me works great, i think it burns seeds up so I have less weeds popping up, it’s also best to get weeds before they get large/ mature, makes burning up easier and don’t take as long. Now for refilling the 1 pound tanks. For me easy peasy, but not for faint of heart or lacking knowledge.

First you have have weight of bottle when full mine were all 30 to 31 once’s, adapter to fit to adapter 1 pound tank to 20 pound tank, and scale to weight bottles so you don’t over fill. The bottles weigh 30 Oz when full. I just brought full 20 lb tank so the pressure greatest in full tank it takes around 40 seconds to get 27 or 28 Oz in 1 lbs bottle, but I don’t do it all at once 20 seconds at time release air through fill fill valve the series of short releases once I smell gas I know all air released when liquid propane takes up space in bottle. So that how that goes. I can refill bottle easily, but that me, I DON’T RECOMMEND IT, not know persons ability/knowledge.

I also blow all leaves and debris into corner and bag them, so I don’t have bush stuff to catch fire. Also be aware of any irrigation plastic parts or black landscaping cover that may be showing through. Plastic melts or catches fire quickly. Naturally I don’t get around natural gas supply lines and meter. So, that’s how my experience when with burning weeds in my rock yard. Probably can’t do that in grass yard or wood chip flower beds wood catches on fire and grass don’t like hot flame hovering over it. Again, I’m NOT recommending this just reporting final evaluation.
