My favorites are Lowes and Home Depot and Walmart.. Healthy stuff, guaranteed and easy on the pocketbook because of mass buying power.

You need to do your own research on what is zone appropriate.

They don't plant it for you, but most of us have easily dug, sandy soil.

Thank-you, Gracie
Wouldn't you think the local big box stores would only sell products that work for the local area. I'll look up the zone, just in case.
Home Depot has a truck too. That's a big plus. I didn't think there would be a guarantee on a shrub or plant. I'll spend some time in Home Depot.

Village Palms on 466 is the best - very knowledgeable and the prices are decent. Very healthy plants. Can't believe they are not in the top 10

Default Home Depot plant guarantee

Live Plants:
The Home Depot unconditionally guarantees all tropical, house, and landscape plants (only perennials, trees, and shrubs) for one year. A perennial is a plant that is expected to live for more than two years. However, an annual is not expected to live more than one year. If your plant dies just bring it and your original receipt to a Home Depot store and we will replace it or issue a refund in accordance with the terms of the refund policy. You MUST have the original receipt to get a refund or store credit. If the plant is no longer available at store location or through a product search, a store credit will be issued.

I'd definitely put KB near the top of the list. Address is 4144 E Co Rd 462 in Wildwood (about a block east of CR 301 near the RR track). Offers annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees. LOTS of decorative pots and trellises if that's what you're seeking. No affiliation with them other than being a happy (and frequent) customer.

I think R & K is sod oriented - certainly in the gardening category, but don't expect to find petunias and geraniums there.

How are you at placing ten tens of stone in garden beds?

I think that people should live here for at least a year, maybe two, before they shell out big bucks to have their property re-landscaped. Especially if they are from the North.

If the bushes seem sparse, just wait 18 months. I have heard valid stories of people who spent lots of money to have their property landscaped and then five years later have to pay to have plant material removed because of dense overgrowth.

In both homes, the bushes they gave us were attractive, durable through cold and heat and color balanced. I think the landscaping that comes with the homes is very good. We planted some Hibiscus for color and have three pots of Phlox on the front porch and some roses in the front beds.

Many people want palms. I can see them from our property and enjoy them from a distance.

If we all liked the same thing, they would only sell vanilla ice cream.

No. They sell pretty, flowering stuff. The things people want in their yards, regardless of whether or not it'll survive in our zone. Same is true with some landscapers.

Goney's has a great selection at fair prices. Same with KB (which didn't make the list), but should've.

The others, many of which I've been to, don't offer anything different than my two favorites.

Another reason I prefer nurseries is that I've had better luck finding more mature plants than either Home Depot or Lowe's.

As to more mature plants they of course will cost more. Is it worth it? That is for you to answer. For me, the answer is depends.

As to plants offered. I would suggest we all read before buying. As an ex-New Yorker, I used to have a great collection of Peonies. Home Depo, Lowes, Walmart and ???? all offer them for sale. They need cold. I think I read
if you want them to bloom here you need to grow them in pots and put them in the refrigerator over the winter-not for me.

There is so much information available to you on the internet. READ before you purchase. Perhaps, ask on Talk of the Villages as to how they do here. Our soil in most of the villages is sandy clay with a high PH-alkaline.

All the stores are selling blueberry plants. If you buy them, they need acidic soil and lots of moisture we have neither.
If, you insist on buying them, you will need to either change you soil, will take year or grow them in very large pots. I DO. Gonna have a good crop this year-IF THE BIRDS DON'T FIND OUT YET AGAIN.

HAPPY GARDENING-IN MY OPINION-PLANTS YOU OR YOUR NEIGHBOR WRAP IN BLANKETS IN THE WINTER ARE MISTAKES YOU OR YOUR NEIGHBOR SHOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT.

I agree with KB. Many plants that others don’t carry and an amazing assortment of pots and water fountains.
