Very interesting and important article about yet another scam. The more we learn, the more we can attempt to protect ourselves. Thank you for passing this on. It's too bad that Sumter County doesn't offer the same early notification service that Lake County does.

The woman I spoke with at the Sumter County Clerk's office said that her boss said they were working on a similar type of program but said it was "very expensive" and probably would not be available for "about a year". I take this as an interesting and informal off-the-cuff reply from a very friendly lady.

I just signed up for the Lake County notification service. It takes about 3 minutes. Basically, you go to the Lake County clerk website, enter your name and email address. Then, any legal actions that use your name will generate an email message to you.

Good for you. You can't be too careful. I look forward to when Sumter and Marion catch up so we can be protected as well.

Would Title Insurance or provisions of a homeowners policy provide any protection from this type of impairment of title?

I don't think homeowners insurance would cover it at all. And, title insurance is so complicated, that I don't think you could ever get a straight answer about what would be covered under various situations.

Good information.

Impossible to make the mortgage stick.

The financial institution will be knocking on your door within a year.

Stay thirsty my friends.
