Statins have reduced the amount of heart related deaths considerably in the last few decades. No one should "TAKE" any drugs unless their doctors prescribe them. I think the need for medication is very individual and can be affected by diet and lifestyle and even genetics and of course AGE. I have decent cholesterol readings and so does my husband, but we both take statins as a preventive measure for two completely different reasons. He was born with only one coronary artery. I am not any kind of medical professional but have always been interested in cardiac health because our youngest was born with a serious congenital heart defect and stenosed blood vessels too, due to Williams Syndrome. Some people read the sports page, I read the New England Journal of Medicine. If we were all the same...you know the rest.

I am on or have been on a few of those on the this. I am not surprised as I take 52 pills a day among other things. I was on more but have been able to eliminate a few.

Many women I know are on antidepressants. Whether they truly need them or not I do not know but I remember when they had not yet been invented and people seemed happy enough. I shudder when I recall some who considered themselves overweight taking Fen Phen. My doctor is very conservative about prescribing medication unless a patient really needs it as many times once a person is on it they cannot get off it. He has told me a couple of times to lose a few pounds to lower my blood pressure as it was 130 over 90. I did and it went back down to 120 over 80. Common sense. He and I laugh about certain pain killers often prescribed as they don’t really kill the pain. They make you just not care you have the pain and constipate the heck out of you. Lol
Some time ago I read some book about Blue Zones where people live long healthy lives. The people eat fresh food, lead very low stress lives, are socially connected to extended family and friends and are physically active. They do not have high level healthcare facilities nearby. Their lifestyle keeps them healthy, not medications. Last edited by Luv2Bretired; 11-26-2019 at 06:14 PM. |

What is really astounding is that so many people are unaware that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (not traditional talk therapy) is more effective than meds in most cases of anxiety and/or depression.

three other children. We waited to hear the outcome of these two young men in their thirties. She told us that they had both been arrested for violent crimes, one for murder.

Isn’t that over the counter?
Probably the under the counter drugs are the most popular, methamphetamines, crack cocaine, heroine, etc. |

An elderly gentleman went in to the Pharmacy and said to the pharmacist " i have a problem and i have heard about a little blue pill that may solve it. Is it true?
Yes , it will solve your problem, very successful." Said the pharmacist. Well, can I get it over the counter? Said the gentleman. Yes, said the pharmacist, if you take TWO. |

I was prescribed Lipitor about 20 years ago. When I researched the drug, I stopped taking it and changed my diet. At that time, my total cholesterol was 240, a year later it was 150. 20 years later, it is always under 200. My Dr agrees, I do not need a statin. My cholesterol is checked every 2 weeks when I donate Blood Platelets.
