Default Aspen Dental

Went in for a free teeth cleaning at Aspen Dental, as this is a medicare benefit. They found that I needed extensive gum work that would cost well over a thousand dollars. I went for a second opinion and found that my gums are normal for my age. Buyer beware. Cheaper is not always better.

Aspen Dental is well known for the "upsell"!

Aspen is known as a dental mill. They are a business, not a service. Similar to "miracle ear" hearing aide stores. They're not in business to correct your hearing. They're in business to sell devices. And Aspen is not in business to fix your teeth. It's in business to sell products and services they can profit from, and their model happens to focus on dentistry.

There is a distinction, however subtle, and it makes all the difference. One focuses on trying to help, and they expect to make a profit from it. The other focuses on trying to profit, and assume it will help.

Which Aspen did you go to? I find big differences in individual offices since each office is individually owned and don't like generalizing. It's just like a franchise restaurant. Some locations are better than others. It depends on the ownership AND management of each franchise location.

I didn’t realize that teeth cleaning is covered by Medicare. Can someone verify? Thank you.

We have the Medicare plan that TVH takes and yes regular yearly checks plus to yearly cleanings are covered by the plan. I don't know about other Medicare plans however.

Medicare Advantage Plans aren't really Medicare. They may be Called Medicare Part C, but in fact are private insurance plans taking the place of Medicare

Smile Have Heard

We have heard of the "Upselling" at Aspen and it is clearly a "Buyer Beware" decision. They are not alone we had one Dentist who wanted to do extensive work well over $10,000. Went to another dentist..The problems were corrected perfectly and charged under $1000. A lot of business's in The Villages miss a key point when creating their business plans. It is NOT WHAT YOU WERE ABLE TO GET BUT WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN AND DID NOT.enough said.

Smile Not Understanding

Seems my statement "that it is not what revenue you have been able to get but rather what you should also have gotten and did not." has been left out of the remarks. If I listen to the comments on this subject it is obvious some have stopped or elected to not use them and these are prime examples of what is "lost revenue".
