Heartbroken over high expectations with Villages Hospital
Very happy with Villages health care.
Took 93 year old mom at Dr. direction to emergency room at Villages hospital. She could not breath. Waited 5 hours until she got to a room in emergency while heavily breathing. Sat in a wheelchair in waiting. She was cold. Asked for blanket, I'll see if we have one, do you have a pillow? No. First oxygen tank done, have another? Not sure. Got to emergency room. I'm ready to blow. No water or food allowed. Extremely diabetic patient, 93 mind you. Finally a kind RN brought a turkey sandwich, mom goggled down with water. Finally got a room in hospital. We have been there most of time. Lunch delivered and mom can not see or cut food or even open plastic ware for eating, did not eat from 7:30 am until 5:00 pm. Oh my, I guess bad communication I was told. Moved from one room to another, but personal clothing left in old room. We were not told. Awful, never again. Love living here but The Villages hospital is a disaster. If it was not for all the volunteers, the place would die. I am heart broken and ****ed all at the same time. |

I assume you will be reaching out to Mr. Henderson, President and CEO of Central Florida Health. My wife has been there twice and had excellent experiences but I know that isn't everyone's experience.

Trying to be PC, we notice the gentleman we try to help out with transportation to doctors is very well respected by all the doctors he sees except its a toss up when he goes to either The Villages Hospital or Leesburg. He is a very polite and nonconfrontational man but the treatment and words he hears from some of the people in the hospital pipeline is a horror. I have witnessed it first hand. I have also seen him treated like royalty, over and beyond what is necessary. I say its poor management and the culture of the operation must be changed yesterday. What will it take for the management to wake up? Does it need to be their mom waiting for a sandwich or water or oxygen? What a crime. Wake up.

Ask to speak to the Charge Nurse or Nurse Advocate....I was in the hospital twice, recently and I would bet I had 4 to 5 people come in my room each day to ask how my care was going. BTW...my care was wonderful! I came through the ER (which "does" need some huge help) both times.
I'm so sorry the OP and her mom had to endure this! |

If everybody who has had such an experience wrote to one of the directors they would eventually have to take notice, publicly, that all the non patient awards and accolades they get are meaningless.
If those who are dis-satisfied with TVRH in any way have not contacted those in authority.....SHAME ON YOU!!! TVRH after all these years know they have a problem.....the silent majority does nothing but complain to their neighbors, hence TVRH administrators can stall and continue to do nothing. Pre-expansion there were words of relief to come with the new expansion. Reality? Nothing change. Problem continues and is even worse. We have watched, listened and experienced first hand this unacceptable drama for 14 years. Expectation? No change!! Recommendation? Monroe Regional Medical Center Summerfield Emergency Center Waterman Hospital LRMC Correct they are further away. But not 2-5 hours away....eh! |

The big beautiful façade of the hospital means nothing. It's like putting whipped cream on a hotdog. Underneath it's the same old stuff. Until outside resources are brought in to evaluate the shoddy care given, which has been well documented, nothing will change..

Today is a better day.
My take charge mode set in, nurses communicating well with me and with each other. Now off to re-hab. Notes, dates, times and names, good and bad written down. Letters will be written. Only the facts will be said Thank you for your inputs. |

Perhaps if you organize an online petition and get hundreds of signatures, the CEO of the Hospital will take notice?

Re: Villages hospital

I had a pik line installed so that there is no need to constantly keep puncturing your veins for repeated administration of antibiotics. The pik line was installed before my last day in the hospital. During the night a young nurse comes in to draw blood with the normal needle rig. By now both of my arms were all black and blue. I told her, as I had had other nurses do, she should take it from the pik line. Her reply was that she is not authorized to do that. I loud an clear told her to find someone who is. I would not allow them to put any more holes in me. She told me someone would be back shortly. There was no follow up. Someone QUALIFIED did show up about eight hours later. Further Villages Hospital report. In my room they had real wood floors. This is supposed to be a hospital. It is impossible to clean real wood floors. Dirt and GERMS will sit forever in the seams between the wood strips. One night I looked down from my bed and saw an animal walking around. By the way it's front legs were joined to the body, I don't think it was a mouse or a rat. More likely it was a good sized lizard As to meds-I am on several prescriptions. I gave them the list. FORTUNATELY I TOOK MY PILLS WITH ME. Yup, I got scolded for that as well. THE PHARMACY NEVER DID GET MY PRESCRIPTIONS. .I asked them about this the second or third day and was told,"They couldn't fine one of them." Unfortunately, WE are a captive audience. You doctor, if local, is likely affiliated to practice at the villages hospital Last edited by autumnspring; 12-22-2017 at 04:48 PM. Reason: SPELLING |

OK when are you all going to realize there are 130000+ people here and the hospital is not equip to handle this. The emergency room is on a triage basis.
I appreciate you feel you need attention now but from a life and death standard you are uncomfortable (maybe extreme) but that is how they handle it. I went in there once with a temperature of over 104 and the waiting room was filled. They took my temp and promptly escorted me into the back ASAP - like it or not that's the system. You need to start learning to go to an urgent care facility first. Even your insurance is set up that way. Look at the cost of an urgent care visit VS emergency room. After that urgent care visit then you will have a better gauge of where to go. It may be wise to visit other areas hospital emergency room than here if it is not life or death. This facility is not big enough to handle as many people that live here - plain and simple. |

A well run facility, hospital or otherwise are not excused to run a shabby, below par, unsafe operation "...because they are not big enough...". The ER has been more than doubled in size with the last expansion......NO IMPROVEMENT....if not worse. There is no excuse for a poorly run operation. Good management DOES SOMETHING about it. Thus far TVRH administration at the highest level has not addressed the problem! |
