Default Cataract Surgery at St. Lukes

New question now....If you had cataract surgery, did you get the near or far vision lens implanted? Are you happy with the one you chose?

Had mine done at St. Lukes just before the laser became available. Fantastic place...Dr. Ireland is the best, her staff are excellent and the facility is great. Highly recommend.

Had my cataract surgery at St. Luke's last October. Laser, not knife. Can't say enough about how painless and worry-free it was; Dr. Ireland is wonderful and so is all her staff.
Completely unexpected result - I don't need reading glasses any more.

Had it done last year by knife was painless and fast. However be aware that crystallization behind the eye can occur and if it does laser surgery may be required. Also be aware that there are factors that create greater risks for some than others and the surgeon will bring that to your attention.

My vision is 20/20, however it created the need for stronger reading glasses and according to the eye doctor is a common result. Jill Ireland at St Lukes performed the surgery. Its more of a bother to have your teeth cleaned than this procedure

Another vote for Dr. Ireland, staff and facility.
Laser for wife and I. Zero pain. Zero problems. Improved no need for glasses vision day one.

Ask Ireland her opinion on which. I will bet laser as it has become the gold standard procedure.

Dr Ireland is the BEST hands down. She did laser on both eyes. The left for distance and the right for reading.

NO MORE NEED FOR GLASSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's also safe to say, Dr. Kimberly Ireland is easy on the eyes! She's my Opthalmologist.

Dr. Kimberly Ireland, excellent. My worst nightmare is having someone mess with my eyes, so I was very nervous. I have macular in one eye and my retina specialist recommended Dr. Ireland. My vision, even with the macular, is so much improved. The one eye will never be good again, but my good eye is exceptional and makes up for the bad. I thought the drops for healing the eyes was more of a nuisance than the procedure.

Everyone in their office is very professional, but so very human! The young man who did my final testing said they go through at least three interviews before she even considers them for a job! Great place.

I can only say that I have had both eyes done recently. Not only cataracts but also to fix an a-stigmatism. For the first time in 61 years I do not need to wear glasses. I used Lake Eye and Dr. Scot Holman. Everything and I mean everything about the entire process has been fantastic.

LOL, that's what I tell her too, she's so pretty and sweet.

Had two cataracts removed last year, was very nervous for the first one but the second was a piece of cake.

Very professional and nice staff, Dr. Ireland is the best.

I don't know which one I got, but I didn't want to correct my vision, just remove the cataracts. After 70 years of wearing glasses, I wouldn't know myself in the mirror without them.

Good luck. You'll do well.

I had the knife at Mid-Florida Eye Clinic just because it was quite a bit less expensive and the results were great.

For 30+ years I was a volunteer surveyor (inspector) for the leading accrediting organization for ambulatory surgery centers. I did not participate in the initial survey of the St Luke's center but I did talk to the surveyors who performed the accreditation review and they were very impressed. We see centers from the inside out (everything) and based on their findings if I would ever need cataract surgery I would go there first.

Dr. Ireland did both my eyes three months ago with great results using the laser. It is difficult to decide to have both eyes for distance, or one for distance and the other for reading. I previously wore mono-vision contact lenses so my adjusting to mono implants would have worked. However, I decided to go with both for distance and have not been sorry. Driving is much easier and it's no problem to read the car's instruments. I can see so much better at anything beyond my arm's length and I really don't mind using inexpensive reading glasses when required. It is also great to see so well and be able to wear "off-the-shelf" sunglasses. The surgery is totally painless and very quick. Medicare pays for the cataract removal part and the implanted lenses to correct astigmatism were $2,000.00 each. Better to spend on the surgery than go through life buying corrective glasses every year or two in my opinion. Just sorry I waited until now to have it done.
