Default What might The Villages do? (We are a notably vulnerable population!)

As I understand, there is a shortage of approved test kits. Probably not practical to outfit every doctor's office with them. If any of us who think we may have symptoms goes to our personal physician, we necessitate the Doc to a) have test kits b) protect their staff c) wash down the facility if they get a real infection d) protect the other pts in the waiting room or in the facility. etc etc.

So - Why not create some number of screening centers in The V, and concentrate the protection resources there. The physicians and staff would be protected properly, and would get the word out as the place to call or go if showing any flu symptoms. Regular physicians would direct callers to those facilities for COVID 19 screening. If not COVID the center would send the pt to regular physician.

Yes, insurance coverage would be an issue to be worked. But since we are a vulnerable community, seems like we should take special steps.

Reading the posts to this thread, beginning on 02-07-2020, it's interesting how the comments have become more thoughtful, and less flippant.

After a Pickleball game yesterday, players shunned the customary Obama fist-bump in favor of a four person paddle touch. Each person had just finished touching the same Pickleball twenty or more times. Soon after, the quartet proceeded to to the water cooler and OMG, "thumb-pushed" the cooler spigot. Of course there were probably 30 others who had touched the spigot in the preceding ten minutes. NUTZO!

Default Germany - possible Corona infection %

Yikes! This topic is on many sources.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday said up to 70 percent of her country’s population could be infected by the deadly coronavirus – stressing the need to slow its spread.

“When the virus is out there, the population has no immunity and no therapy exists, then 60 to 70 percent of the population will be infected,” she said during a press conference in Berlin.

Question Source

There is a news paper "The Poughkeepsie Journal" and today it published that as of March 11th every country that has the virus, confirmed cases, active cases and deaths and recoveries. This listing includes Europe, etc. There is a separate chart that reflects where (what country) the deaths are etc. It is interesting that other than Moroco there is no virus in Africa. It would be nice if our Newspaper did similar research and was as informative.

Not that interesting since the CDC global map lists the following African countries as having reported cases:
Africa:

Algeria
Burkina Faso
Cameroon
Democratic Republic of Congo
Nigeria
Senegal
South Africa
Togo

Interestingly, no Moroco

Thank you for the ONE sensible solution to this problem that has been in any thread on this site. Only, your second post .... you may be too intelligent for TOTV But, on a serious note ... I had mentioned to my husband that Quest could step up and do screening, they must have all the masks etc., needed for their personnel.

I think that anyone who thinks this is just the flu, should definitely make some extra money and volunteer for the human trials of the covid19 vaccine, since the flu is no big deal. They will need volunteers

The problem is that the phrase "just the flu" doesn't really mitigate the severity of COVID-19. An average of 36,000 Americans die each year from "just the flu". I would suggest people use the precautions for "just the flu" and they'll be taking action against COVID-19 at the same time.

Well, my step brother from Alaska was going to visit us after visiting his mom, my step mom in a nursing home in Indiana. He was just informed that no one will be allowed any visitation rights to this nursing home until things are “better”. Thus, he is rethinking about making a trip to just see us and then get stuck somewhere because of a quarantine. It will be interesting how history will look back on our actions or inactions during this time period.
