Default Emergency room orthopedic

Has anyone with a broken bone been treated in an emergency room or do they send you home with pills an instructions to call a specialist?

When I was at the emergency here in the Villages Regional hospital on El Camino I heard a husband very angry with the nurse. He said all they wanted to know is what bones his wife may have broken when she fell, and 4 hours later still had not received any news. There was only 3 of us there so it wasn't because they were too busy. That is all I know about the incident, so take what you wish from it. I personally would try not to go back there if I could help it.

I went to the satellite ER on state Route 44 for a broken wrist on a Saturday. Treatment was fine and yes, they did recommend I see a specialist. However, my orthopedic surgeon told me that had he seen me that very day he would have done surgery that night. My mistake was that I waited, because I really didn’t know any better, saw him on Monday and had surgery on Tuesday. I probably will lose some of my flexion because of that wait.

I can't speak to "here".....but two different times I fell and broke an ankle (years apart) before moving here. Went to the ER and they splinted it and sent me home. The 1st time I went back a few days later and a cast was put on (this was the 1st ankle). Years later I slipped and fell and broke the other one....this time the ER splinted it and told me to call a specialist (ortho) which I did. They had to do surgery on it so back to the hospital for that. Anyway, they most likely won't cast any breaks as you have swelling so they want that to go down a bit before putting a cast on it. So don't scream at the people in the ER......

Saturday morning...Ocala Health ER determined both bones in wife's forearm broken (from fall on patio).
The break was not displaced hence they made a temporary splint/cast elbow to the palm of the hand and recommended with a referral to see an orthopedic.

Monday morning I called a noted hand surgeon here in TV....first available April 2021....they do not service emergency situations (disappointed but not surprised).

Then called the ER referred Orthopedic around 9 am....appointment that afternoon at 3 PM (in Ocala). They had all the information already available from the ER visit. Excellent response....excellent physician and staff.

When I broke my wrist I went to Paramount Urgent Care on 466. It was a Sunday morning and they x-rayed my wrist, wrapped and sent report and x-rays and asked who I wanted them to go to. I had heard excellent recommendations on Dr. Cook so they sent them there.at Advanced Orthopedic Institute in the Sharon Morse Bldg.
I got a call Monday morning from Cook and went in and had surgery on Tuesday. 6 screws, a bone graft and plate later I feel I was treated fast and efficiently.

So sorry to hear about your wife's injuries and the crazy wait for the "noted hand surgeon". Good to know Ocala could accommodate her and that (I assume) she had you to drive her!!!

I called my ortho guy on the way to ED, by the time I arrived orders were waiting for X-rays. Non displaced usually immobilized, call office in a.m.
Displaced or compound surgery would have been done that evening, depending on food and drink intake.

It was non displaced, so after X-rays, he sent me home, no drugs, office in 3 days.

I had the same experience except I went to Lake Regional Urgent care on a Tuesday in LSL. They did an excellent wrap, and gave me a CD of the x-ray. Saw Dr. Cook on Wednesday who reviewed the x-rays from LSL. Unfortunately had to wait until the following Monday for surgery. Kudos to The Villages Hospital advanced surgery center. Great experience there. The pre-op work was most efficient including lab work, an EKG, COVID testing etc. All done in less than an hour. The IV sick was painless, I was comfortable and had a caring and competent nurse. The rest I don't remember...
