Anyone out there have to deal with Vertigo and have had to get the crystals in the ear manipulated? Anyone have a recommendation for a good ENT to handle this?

You don't need an ENT...have your doctor refer you to a physical therapist to do this. I had the vertigo issues about 3 years ago...saw someone in the Sante Fe Crossing PT practice on 466. I forget what their practice is called..it's next to (I think) where that golf store place is located. I had to go a handful of times but the person was able to take care of the issue.
If you don't have a doctor...try one of the Urgent Care clinics. We go to the Paramount Urgent Care---also in the Santa Fe Crossing (on 466) center. Have always been satisfied with their care. In the meantime you can get OTC Dramamine (non-sleepy) from your druggest which may also help. |

Try this first maybe
Great instructional information on HOME treatment. Website also gives the office options and excellent basic science behind the theory. The home exercises are part way down on the page but it is interesting to read through the whole thing. Be sure to note the warnings about who should not be doing this at home.

Dr. Antonelli in Gainesville specializes in this, it'll take at least a month to get an appt. However, the home remedies do work so only need him if other issues involved.

Had an absolutely terrible time with vertigo last fall. My doctor sent me to Tracey Walding, Clinic Director, at Lake Centre for Rehab. (It's behind Sweetbay in Lake Sumter.) She confirmed it immediately and gave me exercises to do. To date, it's gone, but when it returns I'll know what it is and what to do. Tracey was excellent!

Thank you all for the responses, have had this since 1995, but becoming more frequent. The home exercises do not work, neither does the OTC meclizine, so was looking for a good doctor to see what additional things can be done. I have been told who not to go to but hard to find who to go to. Just left my regular doctor in another Fl. county and in search of primary care here so getting a referral won't be that easy. Guess I'll just keep plodding along finding doctors around here. Sure not easy. Thanks again.

Go to ENT specialist and make sure it isn't Meniere's. I've had it since 1995 and there are some things you can do for it. Just need to know what is causing the Vertigo. One severe Meniere's episode left me with 65% hearing loss in one ear.

I presently have Vertigo and went to see a physical therapist named David. His number is 352 396 0350. He showed my husband how to do the Epley Manuvuer so I don't have to keep running back and forth to his practice. He is very busy and it is hard to get an appointment. If you want send me a private message and we will be glad to explain it to you or you can google it. Patti

Aussiemom, you say the home exercises don't work for you. Are these the exercises you tried? How to Treat Vertigo with Brandt-Daroff Exercises | eHow.com
They seemed to help when I had vertigo, and maybe they'll help someone else on this forum.

If the "rolling the rocks around" physical therapy doesn't work, you have a number of choices. First is to go to a neurologist for a workup. If it isn't loose rocks, it could be one of several other causes. Douglas Green at Jacksonville Inner Ear & Balance Institute was recommended by my wife's doctor (see next choice). We haven't met him, but Dr Tucci doesn't recommend people lightly. Finally, *the best* place for vertigo is at Duke. Dr Debara Tucci is the leading person in the US (and thus, the world) for diagnosing and treating balance disorders. She has an entire staff who work on balance disorders and skull base issues. She is absolutely, positively, without a doubt, the best. Duke may be a ways away, but it is the best place for this. PM me if you have more questions. David |
