Florida Healthcare Substandard?
We're just starting to look at The Villages, and live in Minnesota. We mentioned TV to our money manager guy last night and he said he had several clients who loved it. Then he mentioned very seriously that we will probably want to fly back to Minnesota for any real health care problems. He spoke as if it were a known fact that Florida has substandard healthcare. That was news to me.
Can any of you TV folks tell us what you think on this? As I understand it there is a new VA hospital going in there, and I have a reserve Military retirement in addition to my civilian job. Thanks. |

If your money manager researches investments the same way he researches health care in Florida, you may want to look for a new money manager to go with your new home in TV. It is a ridiculous statement.
There is no VA hospital in The Villages, however, they are nearing completion on a huge VA Clinic here. Gainsville is the nearest VA Hospital. I use VA services here in TV and have been very happy with them. I recently visited a friend in the TV Hospital. It is not your normal hospital. Looks more like a resort. |

New Doctor
We moved here recently and I had to find a new cardioligist. I found one in the Citrus Cardio Group and I'll tell you I was very impressed. Up to date facility, seen within 15 minutes of arriving. After seeing the Dr. by the time I got to the front desk my Rx was alredy waiting for me, my test were scheduled and my next appointment was set. Went for testing today more modern equiptment then at my NY center. So I have no complaints either. I'd take it all with a grain of salt.

I completely agree with RVROADIE. Your problem is not with quality health care it's with quality financial management. When you arrive in TV look for a new money specialist as well.

My husband has recently undergone a cataract operation and a double hernia operation at the VA hospital in Gainesville. He received the best care we have ever encountered in our 25 years of marriage. This VA hospital is one of the best and we would recommend it to anyone. The doctors and nurses come from Shands Hospital in Tampa and Shands is one of the best in the country.

I agree with all of the above. A new money manager when you arrive in TV. My wife had a stress test because of a family history of heart issues. Well she failed. She had an appointment for a heart cath. the next day, four by- passes the next morning. The care given at Leesburg hospital was excellent, the Doctor who did the surgery was excellent and all of her follow-up care was excellent. Coming from the Philadelphia area and it's many teaching hospitals, I'll take the Villages.

I agree with everyone who has posted so far that health and medical services here in TV are excellent. The impression to the contrary about Florida, however, goes beyond a single Minnesota money manager. I think that magazines that publish "ratings", like Money Magazine and U.S. News and World Report, have presented a negative image of FL in that respect.

The Villages Hospital
I had the misfortune of suffering a severe allergy attack in the Lake Sumpter Movie theater, back in November. I received excellent emergency treatment by the attending EMT's and was subsequently was admitted to The Villages Regional Hospital. I spent two days in the new, state of the art facility. My medical care was excellent, and my semi private room looked more like a beautiful hotel accomodation , than a hospital room. No complaints here. PS. I was visiting TV's at the time, and my out of state residency and health insurance were each handled with ease. Sandra
