If it is one thing we are really disappointed in here, it is the quality of the Drs. Coming here from MA, and just outside of Boston, we had wonderful Drs. to chose from. I just don't see the draw for highly qualified Drs. here.
What we see is just ok, very hit or miss. If my husband or I get a serious illness,we're out of here! What is the name of Gary Morse's Dr.?

Well, we will probably never get to know who he is, but it's pretty obvious he/she's at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

I, too, moved from the suburbs of Boston and had really never been very sick while living in Massachusetts, but my primary care was at Beth Israel and it does not get much better than that! However after moving here my other half had a rare cancer and I had major kidney problems. My husband was diagnosed right here by our primary care, and I was diagnosed at one of the critical care clinics, and then passed along to a local urologist who sent me to Mayo.

So don't give up on the availability of good medical care right here just yet - oh, and while I'm about it, let me tell you that the 3 hr drive from here to Mayo is a piece of cake compared to getting in and out of the Beth Israel in the middle of Boston.

So sorry to hear of your health issues but good to hear that you found answers not too far away.

I suspect this will be concierge type of system. Pay a fixed amount to enroll, then co-pays with the rest being billed to your insurance.

Doc in a box

The "man" will take care of all of us,,, I am looking forward to this happening,,what a pain it is to get into see a doc quickly,,, u can bet if the powers that be are running this,,it will be ran efficient manner with satisfied customers. The problem will come is what kind of doc will come work for the lackluster salaries that are paid In this area?

Will for sure be lots new foreigners that have no solid ties to any home community,so they come here trying to establish themselves. So don't expect to get Marcus Welby . Will most likely be more dr Greg House, lots of wackos that can't get jobs in there hometowns or have been ran out there local areas.
I am looking foward to this this.we need better docs here...we are great guinea pigs for these docs we all are old and if we die they can pass it off as aging patients as opposed to making a mistake

Madelaine Amee 12-14-2012 08:32 AM

With all respect for your opinion, I totally disagree with you on this. Do you really believe our local doctors work for local wages, you only have to see the clinics they build to see that they are doing very well.

"Foreigners" - I think you are assuming that all doctors with different names are not born, raised and educated right here in the U.S. My favorite and quite brilliant doctor at the Beth Israel was of Chinese parentage, and American born. Americans come in all colors, all shapes and all sizes these days; and living in Florida we are going to have more and more hispanic doctors practicing here. In my case at Mayo, my surgeon was of Greek parentage, my husband's Oncologist was Indian!

In our case, whenever we need to see a doctor we are not familiar with, I research where they did their residency and I have never yet found one locally who has not been educated right here in the U.S.

There is a watchmaker at one of the local flea markets who is from Vietnam. My husband was talking with him one day and found out that his six, yes six, children had all been born here, educated here and were ALL doctors, dentists, Engineers ........... you name it, and they had all done it on studying hard and getting scholarships.

Will most likely be more dr Greg House, lots of wackos that can't get jobs in there hometowns or have been ran out there local areas.
This is a really insulting comment.

Was told in July there is a waiting list, which we are supposedly on, and they would be contacting us in December to let us know who the doctors are etc.
It is a rather confusing process, but the building looks to be near completion so hopefully more information will be out soon.

tsew22 12-14-2012 09:12 AM

Thank you, for the encouragement, and glad you are both doing well.

I would have to come along side this comment/poster and say that one should never make judgements by skin color or ethnicity!! Whenever I make an app't with a new provider I try to do my "due diligence" to find out their credentials first. I have a specialist I see in Ocala, who is of a different race than me---she's top-notch and I like her very much. America, last I heard, is a melting pot of all people from around the world. So far, since moving here we've found our practioners to be fine. IF, Heaven forbid, either of us would get a catastrophic illness we'd probably look as this poster did for someone who could "best" address our illness.

I have to wonder "if" the food..... and health-care here is so bad---why is it this community is growing so quickly??
