Healthcare Provider Recommendations
My husband and I are new to The Villages. Anyone have any recommendations as to a good dentist, family practice medical providers, and eye care providers. Thanks.

Welcome to T.V.! That's like asking "what is your favorite ice cream flavor."

I switched to United Healthcare with their Passport policy. I can keep my doctors when I go back north. I did check with my doctors and they take UH. It is also one of the few that Villages Healthcare accepts.

We think UHC TV Advantage is great, but watch out for UHC affiliated dentists. Only cleaning is covered and some do only none covered deep cleaning and then use that to upscope your needs (scare tactics and perhaps unneeded). We have gone outside UHC for our dental care. I am sure there are many reputable dentists our there. My recommendation is Dr Heydari at Aestheic Dental across the street from Colony Plaza. No upscoping in 3 years.

Florida Vascular and Heart for primary Doctor. Medicare and Florida Blue Supplement plan G.
I tried UHC advantage plan for a year but the small Doctor network and the paperwork wasn't worth it. We use Palm dental for Dentist. Dr. Jabber is fantastic! |

I have UHC of The Villages and it has served me well. Fortunately all my meds are generic and are totally paid for by UHC. Other than an occasional co-pay to see a specialist, my doctor visits are are totally covered by UHC, Because I'm in pretty good health, I haven't complained about the fact that I have only seen my primary care doctor twice since I acquired her about 2 years ago. I'm sure the PA's keep the PC's informed so I'm not too worried about that. As far as a dentist goes, I've found Lady Lake Smile Dentistry to be fantastic. They are very professional and their prices are fair. All in all, I'm very happy with the medical coverage and procedures that I have gotten here.

We have not had any luck with The Villages Health Care. We are from Chicago and had exceptional health care there. Numerous misdiagnoses i.e., my husband had a hernia that was repaired with mesh and the mesh gave out. He was told at The Villages by a physician's assistant "Jeffrey" there was no problem and he was fine. He was having problems and we knew he was not fine. Upon going to Shands he was told the mesh had torn and the hernia was protruding; The Villages made a mix up in blood draws here by a nurse who drew my husband's blood and did not put his name or a label the vials of blood immediately rather she stuck unlabeled blood vials in her pocket. When I asked her if she should write his name on the vials the nurse said she would do it later (that is very unprofessional) when drawing blood they should have a label and ask you to verify your name and birth date. His results were totally different than what was typical so we went to Shands and sure enough the blood work they did there did not even resemble the results from The Villages. They told him his blood glucose was high (diabetic range) and he has never had problems with glucose and that his creatine was problematic and that wasn't correct. So I immediately after getting the results took him to Shands. The blood draw there yielded totally different results. Normal glucose and normal creatine. There have been other problems as well. We were not typically able to see a doctor at The Villages but rather a physicians' assistant who has made mistake after mistake. Jeffrey who ordered an ultra sound which we paid for when the physician said after the fact that an MRI should have been ordered. So we are responsible for a copay and coinsurance so having to pay for the wrong test is expensive. At present we have a primary care physician at Shands and one at The Villages. In a pinch we can always go here but for cardiac, general surgery or for anything besides a cold we go to Shands. We have also gone to a very good ENT Dr. Steehler who is affiliated with Orlando Health because getting an appointment at Shands can be difficult. We were satisfied with the care there as well. For our dentist we go to Jones Dentist on 27. They don't over charge and run up your bill. We initially went to East Hamlet Dental and they wanted to pull teeth and do a lot of unnecessary work. Also they quoted low and then priced high. When you start with East Hamlet they have you sign saying they are only giving you an estimate and that you are responsible for the final bill which surprise turns out to be higher. Overall the health care we have received in Florida has been inferior to the health care we had in Chicago which has Northwestern, University of Chicago, Rush, and Loyola Medical Centers. However, the weather and quality of life is better in the Villages. So after Covid we may just go up to Chicago for thorough physicals and to see our specialists. I am not sure with having so many people who are on medicare if The Villages can ever have high quality health care because the reimbursement on Medicare is not as high as it is with many of the private health insurance companies.

Dr. Pike Aspen Dental Wedgewood & CR466. Join FL Blue Medicare Advantage. The best doctors are in The Villages Health Care system. Dr. Uyen Nguyen at Colony is a primary and osteopathic manipulator. She is the absolute best doctor I've had in my lifetime. Lange Eye on CR466.

Get the best insurance you can afford that gives you the most flexibility for choices. (I like PPOs) Choose each doctor/dentist carefully - online reporting and (mostly "Village Next Door" and friends recommendations) . If serious and cannot find specialist, go to Mayo in Jacksonville. Be your own advocate. Have had great doctors and some not so great - just like anywhere -- but there is no major medical center or teaching hospital that is local

I would highly recommend Tradewinds Dental Care near Lowes. They are very caring, professional, and don’t gouge.
We are very pleased with Hindsight Optometrists at 2478 Burnsed Blvd. They are very professional and great to help you with all of your needs. Most of the time your glasses will be ready same day. I have The Villages United Health Care for my Medicare Supplement. I can’t say enough good things about the care I receive from my primary care physician and my specialists. |
