Default AREDS2 eye vitamins???

I placed a similar post several years ago and am looking for current observations/opinions/experience.
The eye doctor suggested taking any eye vitamin supplement as long as it was AREDS2.

When shopping there are so many choices it can be confusing.
It appears Bausch & Lomb have an impressive offering, but they too have so many different versions.

My wife has been diagnosed as having early stage macular degeneration.....a stage to be watched....take AREDS 2 vitamins.

While I do more research I would like to hear from anyone who has been through this process (of choosing which brand to take).

I have age related macular degeneration and have been taking areds 2 vitamins for about two and one half years. The brand I use is Advanced Theraceuticals Pro Optic areds 2 formula. It is a one a day vitamin and a 90 day supply is $39.00. This brand was recommended to me by the doctors at Lake Eye. I order them online at 1-888-442-5002.

This manufacturer has Zeaxanthin 2%. None of the other brands I looked at had that extra ingredient. Also I like that this is one a day while many areds require 2 capsules per day.

Best of luck to you and your wife. After two years of injections and taking the vitamins my Macular degeneration is in remission. I go to the doctor every six weeks but haven’t had to get an injection in five months.

I would do what ever the doctor recommends as macular degeneration can end up requiring periodic shoots in the eye or worse.
If you have any doubts in the doctors ability then I would get a second opinion. This can be very serious.

My wife's doctor has had her on Bosch+Lomb for about 5 years now. They are the ones called PreserVision. They also have a big AREDS 2 on the label too. Here doc specifically mentioned "PreserVision" and said she should take two a day.

That's the one I take, Pro-Optics Areds 2. My doctor at Lake Eye said it's a good one. The main reason I started it was because it is just one capsule per day, not two. I hate to take pills.

I believe the eye vitamins described here can be had much cheaper if purchased individually or by other manufacturers.

Furthermore I don't think they contain Astaxanthin which is the eye health superstar.

Sad that some eye professionals I mentioned Astaxanthin to claimed to be unaware if it.

Astaxanthin is what makes salmon pink. Eat the sockeye as it contains much more.

Astaxanthin has a lot of health benefits, and is reasonably priced. Amazon.com or Vitacost/Swansons

My soon to be 90 year old mother has macular degeneration and has had several different eye doctors over the years. The last two have told her to use Preservision w/Areds 2. She does and at least for her it works wonderfully.
