Yesterday I read the ad in the "Daily Sun" that she will not be able to see her former patients for two years. That's too bad for her former patients who might like to continue with her.

That does seem very unfair. There's obviously some non-compete contract she signed with her former employer. That really gives me something to think about with the doctor I'm now using. She is new in an established practice, and I'll bet she signed the same type of contract.

I had my last appt. with Dr. Abrantes yesterday. I liked her very much, covers everything , listens to you, takes a conservative approach. It's 2010 so non competes are the norm unfortunately.

Pardon my ignorance and I may be wrong. I always thought doctors who can't see you anymore or are giving up their practice should have a replacement or recommend someone. Whether one likes the new doctor is another story.

Dr. Abrantes did refer me to another doctor within Premier Medical Assoc. I didn't have to go with her suggestion, I could have gone elsewhere but she cannnot refer me to herself. Think about it, when your favorite hair stylist leaves salon A, they don't tell you where she/he went, they want to keep you as a customer. Non competes are very common in many fields these days.

WOW ! What a kick in the (fill in the blank). She is my doctor and just referred me for tests to confirm an abdominal aoritic aneurysm last week. I wonder if Premier will bother to get back with me. I like her and only tolerated the Premier staff since she and my endocrinologist are both on the Premier roster. I always relish the good info I glean from TOTV but this doesn't fall in that category - I'd even skipped the thread until this afternoon - bet I don't do that again.

Dr. Abrantes referred me to a specialist yesterday and that office called me at 8:45 this morning. Yep, I'm going to miss her too.

I don't have a doctor in TV yet, so I might be in luck with all the positive recommendations for Dr. Abrantes. But I'm confused.

Despite what the ad says, if she does not in any way solicit your business, but you as a former patient call her new office to make an appointment, the new office has to turn you away?

If so, that is not the same as when your hairdresser changes salons. The old salon might not volunteer where you're former stylist went, but if you find out, there's nothing stopping you from calling her new salon and making an appointment with her.

Is it even possible that you are forbidden from doing the same thing with your doctor? I could understand if she had an agreement that did not allow her to open or work in a different practice in the area. However, if she's allowed to practice medicine in the area, I don't see how you as a former patient could not be allowed to see her, while your neighbors can.

Her patients didn't sign a no-compete agreement!

I have mixed emotions. I went to her after trying another doctor who owned a medical center with an incompetent staff. Without going into detail, Dr. Abrantes was too conservative for me and I was considering switching next month anyway.

What does "too conservative for me" mean in terms of a physician? Not quick enough to order diagnostics or prescribe medicines? Dr. Abrantes was recommended to me and I'm not sure what you meant.
