As with most things, there are unintended consequences. I recently read where many pharmacies are having trouble getting ample supplies of hydroxychloroquine, because so many doctors are prescribing it. The problem is that some people, like my wife, take and have taken it for years because of lung related autoimmune disease. Now many of them are unable to get their prescriptions filled. Fortunately, we got my wife’s script filled for ninety days right before the run on it.

I am reminded of the panel of physicians who recommended cessation of PSA testing as an early warning for prostate cancer. The panel consisted of not a single oncologist, not a single urologist, and was chaired by a female pediatrician. Do we know if all the respondents of this survey have actually treated COVID-19 patients? Additionally, since it was a multiple-choice poll, it could have been biased toward a desired conclusion. How do we know that jelly beans weren't a choice? To summarize...I reject this news and favor scientific protocols.

Dr. Anthony Cardillo said he has seen very promising results when prescribing hydroxychloroquine in combination with zinc for the most severely-ill COVID-19 patients.

"Every patient I've prescribed it to has been very, very ill and within 8 to 12 hours, they were basically symptom-free," Cardillo told Eyewitness News. "So clinically I am seeing a resolution." He said he has found it only works if combined with zinc. The drug, he said, opens a channel for the zinc to enter the cell and block virus replication.

Everyone he has given it to has been symptom free within 8 to 12 hours?
Yet, the original posting says it’s the most used drug. Most used drug, but there have been thousands of deaths by those prescribing the drug?

Read the survey at link, they had a choice of 15 treatments to choose from, all were treating Covid 19 patients.

Hydroxychloroquine usage amongst COVID-19 treaters is 72% in Spain, 49% in Italy, 41% in Brazil, 39% in Mexico, 28% in France, 23% in US, 17% in Germany, 16% in Canada, 13% in UK and 7% in Japan.
• Hydroxychloroquine was overall chosen as the most effective therapy from a list of 15 options (37% of COVID-19 treaters). • 75% in Spain, 53% Italy, 44% in China, 43% in Brazil, 29% in France, 23% in US and 13% in UK.

The Doctor in LA is using a cocktail of hydroxychloroquine, azithromycin, and zinc sulfate which is what's working for him. Not sure if all the Doctors in survey use same cocktail, just that many of them use hydroxychloroquine.

I did read the survey. Only 35% of the 6227 physicians had "been involved in the treatment" of a patient who had tested positive and of those doctors, 37% chose hydroxychloroquine as the most effective. That equates to about 13% of the doctors surveyed choosing hydroxychloroquine as the most effective treatment option. What this survey proves is that numbers can be tweaked, spun, and presented in a way that leads to misinterpretation.

I am not medically trained. Are you medically trained?

I hope and pray that Chloroquine with the Z-pac works and I hope and pray that the vaccine they began testing today works too. I read somewhere a couple of weeks ago that someone was testing a vaccine in the State of Washington. I really like being assured that the good news is coming from a valid source. But I am very, very, skeptical. I had really good science teachers. And a damn good English teacher too who was Hell on proper sourcing. That was a long time ago, but I still can say my linking verbs...…….

No, it means 37% of surveyed Doctors treating covid 19 patients are using the drug. I don't care what the other ones think because they aren't treating covid 19 patients. Nobody is trying to spin or tweak the numbers, survey is easy to read and understand. You understand that there is no patent on hydroxychloroquine, its cheap and made by several countries all over the world. Nobody has a vested interest in promoting the drug.

I understand you would rather wait for full clinical trials, but death rate may peak in a few weeks so those may be too late to save some people.

I noticed you have commented on the Doctor in LA, he's treating very serious coronavirus patients with his tri drug cocktail and seeing great results.

DianeM 04-06-2020 02:21 PM

Well ... given the alternatives (of which there are none), if I were suffering from the virus and truly that sick, if I were offered this medication, I’d scarf it down in a heartbeat. Something beats nothing every day.

I KNOW two bonifide doctors who post on here and I, me, Graciegirl is a doctor snob. I much prefer doctors to other amazingly bright and generally qualified engineers or English Teachers or Government Procurement Specialists when I am seeking information on medical treatment. I think that you linked a consensus of opinions from a Doctors online blog.

You ask a lot of questions but don't seem to read the answers. Earlier in this thread you had doubts that the survey was of actual Doctors. I answered that question by posting from the survey which stated that they are all certified and verified Doctors.

I have now posted 3 more links with reports about actual Doctors treating actual coronavirus patients with the results they are getting. Read them.

That's a 4.2% death rate, higher than the current death rate in the U.S. of about 2.8%. That is the problem with accepting these preliminary studies without long term controlled groups. Basically the only conclusion one can reach just at looking at that study is that the drug combination is not effective but the drug combination is killing people at a higher rate. Bottom line is everyone hopes that very soon we have an effective drug that can cure COVID-19. I sure do.

I think you have noticed something that does not exist. I do not recall commenting on that subject. However, regarding those anecdotal reports, when two events occurring together are assumed to be cause and effect, that is often a correlation fallacy.

That report, from New York I think, was from a Doctor treating patients from 3 nursing homes, most likely in their 80s or 90s.

His patients were under long-term acute care and had comorbidities such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or congestive heart failure.

I'd say saving all but 2 is pretty darn good with those patients.

The other reports

DR Smith : Smith, who is treating 72 COVID-19 patients, said that he has been treating "everybody with hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin [an antibiotic]. We’ve been doing so for a while.”

He pointed out that not a single COVID-19 patient of his that has been on the hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin regimen for five days or more has had to be intubated.

“The chance of that occurring by chance, according to my sons Leon and Hunter who did some stats for me, are .000-something,” he said, adding that “it’s ridiculously low"

Dr Cardillo in LA

Dr Anthony Cardillo said he has seen very promising results when prescribing hydroxychloroquine in combination with zinc for the most severely-ill COVID-19 patients

"Every patient I've prescribed it to has been very, very ill and within 8 to 12 hours, they were basically symptom-free," Cardillo told Eyewitness News. "So clinically I am seeing a resolution"

So you might need to recalculate that death rate.

I don't think the things you want me to read are helpful and one Doctor's results is not impressive. He doesn't say how many patients he is seeing. It appears his usual job is treating sexually transmitted diseases in the inner city. I think a pulmonologist would be really helpful to hear from...BUT....Like Diane M, I would try anything but so far I don't read any conclusive evidence from you or the POTUS that this is working. I remember a couple of days ago you were debating the "real" M.D.s who live here and post on here.
