Knee Replacement - new procedure?
Does anyone have info on Dr. Steve Nguyen, an Orthpaedic surgeon? He supposedly has a new procedure whereby only a small side incision is involved. Does he do work in The Villages? Has anyone had this done? What are the results? Thank you for any info available.

Had a full replacement a year ago. They bent my knee over 90 degrees the morning after surgery and I played 18 holes of golf 22 days after the surgery. I was black and blue for months after because he cuts on the side and twists the leg to get at the knee rather than cutting through the middle. I feel that rehab still takes a long time but I was back in service playing golf and pickleball sooner than anybody else I know. I highly recommend him.
Be aware that his office staff can be quite stiff, but he's quite a surgeon. |

Do a search on "knee replacement" and you'll see beaucoup posts about him and results (all positive).

if you want him to do surgery, better get in line quickly. I saw his PA on Dec, 8th, and my surgery is scheduled for late May. If you want surgery earlier, weigh the benefits of waiting for him, and probably having an easier post op recovery, or go for the traditional way, and very likely you will have had your surgery, and be pretty much through with your recovery before I can even start mine. Just a thought.

Dr Nguyen only does Full Knee Replacements commonly called TKR. He uses the Stryker knee the same as all other Orthopedic Drs........it is his procedures that are different..not the knee. One thing that could make the knee different is that Dr Nguyen suggests a metal allery test prior to surgery and depending upon the results you may get a cermanic or titainum knee...very few other drs ask for this pre-test.
I just had my knee replaced by Dr Nguyen 19 days ago. |

I know selecting a person's Doctor or Surgeon is a very personal thing but please enlighten me of where I can go "further away from TV" to find "many more expert speciality (Doctors)" who can provide such a service...... and I assume this is based on personal experience!!! |

The really good, highly recommended surgeons do have a long wait time to see them and to have the procedure done, no matter where they're at. My wife had her knee replaced last April (conventional way) in KC and it took her 5 months from appt. date to surgery; he is now 1 of 8 surgeons in the country doing it this new way.

Thank you. Her knee is doing great; only took her 6 weeks to get back on the golf course. I only wish my right shoulder would heal as fast. We look forward to being there; low of 6 tomorrow morning and -3 Wednesday morning.
