Default Lake Imaging. Good report.

I have had some concerns about the health care here in TV being on par with the big cities so I just want to report my first experience.

My doctor up North said I should see an endocrinologist here in TV because my thyroid was off on a recent test. On the recommendation of Bonny from this forum I saw Dr. Fish in Leesburg and was very happy with his expertise and his background. He did something at Walter Reed, fellowship or internship.
Great experience with this doctor.

I had to go to Lake Imaging for the tests and it is part of The Health Care Alliance (Leesburg Hospital and Sharon Morse, our Villages hospital).

The two women techs, the ultrasound and the nuclear, both were grown up, easily over 55. Did things right, explained the tests, were cheerful and helpful and polite and anything you could want.

BUT....I just have to say this. I have gone to Doctors and stuff all of my life but I have NEVER been in such a cushy waiting room and changing rooms as those at Lake Imaging.. My dears, it had BEAUTIFUL pictures and lovely furniture and not only were the magazines from this decade and NOT all Field and Stream, but they had FOUR from this month and year.

Excellent.

But GG, you left out the most important criteria. Were all the live plants in the office in good health?

No plants at Lake Imaging...

But, Dr. Fish's office had FISH...in two big tanks and plaques on the wall.

The aquarium fish looked to be in excellent health.

I too have had some concerns about the health care here in TV being on par with the big cities being from the northeast.

So happy to hear you were taken care of in beautiful surroundings and was a pleasent experience.

Default Booklet available from Central Florida Health Alliance.

There is a booklet with doctors associated with the Central Florida Health Alliance, giving the doctors educational background and in most cases a photograph. It is divided into specialties. A good thing to have.

I don't know where we got ours, but it is for 2008 when we bought the house so it may have come from The Villages or from the one of the welcoming services.

I have been to Lake imaging on a number of occasions. The folks up north should take a page out their book. They are the most efficient group I have ever been to. Also my wife had open heart surgery in Leesburg, we were shocked but after the operation, which went great, the services at both hospitals put the ones in the Philadelphia area to shame.

My two cents:

I am fortunate that I don't need many doctors (yet). However, those with whom I have had contact have impressed me no end.

Even more impressive, and exciting, I think, is the fact that almost universally, Villagers with whom I have reasonably regular contact, have never, repeat never, given me a negative report about local physicians or facilities.

I came from St. Louis, where both Washington and Saint Louis Universities operate teaching hospitals. Overall, this translates to superior medical care.

But, please be assured that my diagnosis, treatment and overall care here in The Villages matches, and, in fact in many instances, beats anything I ran across in the deeply professional environment as there was in St. Louis.

Thanks for my soapbox time.

Gracie,

I know EXACTLY what you mean about those techs' ages. Maybe I should not feel this way, but I always feel a little better when they are closer to my age. I try not to be like that, but I just AM. And in the area of TV, there should be lots and lots of wonderful experience available to hire.

A few years ago, I was visiting someone at a Cincinnati hospital. There was a nurse working there (of a certain age) who was wearing a starched white uniform (a dress), white stockings, white shoes, and her cap. -- I think maybe those nurses' caps indicated their School of Nursing. I don't know if nursing school grads even get caps anymore.

I told her how much I liked seeing that look. And I asked her if it made her patients feel better.

She told me that her "more mature" patients really appreciated it, but that many of her patients had never seen a nurse dressed that way.

I gotta tellya -- if I had worked my tail off for one of those caps, like the girls in my high school class who went to those tough nursing schools like they had in those days, welllll, I would wear that cap everywhere I went.

And, of course, I had to ask her if she also had a cape. (Ohhhhh, why oh why do I admit knowing this kind of stuff. Geez.)

Anyway, I sure do digress....but I am glad you had a good experience there and I hope everything turns out well.

I have been to Lake Medical Imaging on a few occasions. When we first got here we had to go to the Sharon Morse building. However, they also have an office in Lake Sumter Landing which, for me, is much more convenient. However, I'm not sure that they do all of their tests there.

Thanks for the report, GG. Hope the doctors make you all better.

Don't get too much younger though-- you'll start thinkin' those nurses are old fogies.

I'll be at Lake Imaging tomorrow for the umpteenth time. I have only good things to say about my experiences there. Among a other pluses, they keep to schedule. That is practically unknown in the medical world.

Between the two of us we are involved in about every facet of medicine here. I would say the care is as good, if not better, than most major metropolitan areas.

We will soon have Moffit right here. BTW, it is now only one hour and twenty five minutes from my house.

Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala is one of the top heart hospitals in the country. Thirty minutes.

There are many reasons I would be reluctant to move from here. Health care at my stage is a big one.
