Macular Degeneration Clinic
Have been diagnosed with significant MD in both eyes. Went to a seminar put on by clinic here in Villages and thinking of going to them. Would like to hear if anyone has an opinion on this clinic.

I think you will have to be more significant. There are several clinics in the area and probably more than one that treats MD. Do you have a clinic name or Drs. name?

Eyewiz, do eye vitamins really help, or is it all industry-funded snake oil that we pay top dollar for, only to learn after a few years that a new study will refute the original claims? I don't mean to be cynical, but I guess I am to a degree. I take the vitamins, but am grumpy about it.

Ocala eye is another well thought of group too. We use them.

My wife like Ocala Eye as well.
As for the vitamins, NIH did some studies and found that mix of vitamins in PreserVision (and I suppose similar other brands) works very well. DWs non-age related macular degeneration has been stable for over 6 years. |

Is PreserVision an over the counter? I am not used to Medical facilities selling things.

Yes, Preservision is over the counter. You can buy it most everywhere. What I'm wondering is if you take a Preservision vitamin, should you still take a regular multi-vitamin too, or is that 'doubling-up' and might cause problems?

I am going to a Retina Specialist for the first time this morning and I will ask. I am a little nervous. Say a tiny prayer for me.

Went to see Dr. Samy, part of the group of specialists who work for Ocala Eye. He is board certified and a retina specialist. He graduated from Yale School of Medicine and did his residency at Harvard Medical Center in Boston.
I feel very good about his credentials, his ability and about Ocala eye in general. My wrinkled retina seems to be part of the aging process and he suggested I buy the over the counter eye vitamin suggested above and also said that anything that would improve my general health would improve my eye health. I first saw Dr. Jodie Armstrong M.D. there for a much needed and far too long put off eye screening and exam.. They are very thorough and very professional. They have offices both in Ocala and near Laurel Manor Rec Center in The Villages. Dr. Samy only sees patients in Ocala. I had hesitated because I thought if I get the wrong one, they will do cataract surgery whether it is needed at this point or not. Apparently I don't need cataract surgery just now and I feel that my eye health will be monitored by ethical and well trained physicians. That is a relief. I find that a lot of NEW friends these days are doctors.

I like Ocala eye, but had to travel to Ocala. There is a new guy who just opened up in the Morse Building named Dr. Kaushal. I liked him a lot and my retina specialist up north approved. His waiting room was getting really full!
