Default Detached Retina Surgery Recovery Time

My 89 year old dad had surgery 10 weeks ago to repair a detached retina. The surgeon who did the surgery advised him that his vision in that eye may never be what it was before the surgery.

For those of you who have had a detached retina, what has been your experience with how much vision was restored and how long did it take to notice improvement? My dad says progress in regaining vision in the affected eye has been slow, and he has stopped highway driving (at least for now, which I endorse 100%).
