Open enrollment 2019 ends tomorrow 12/7. The Villages UHC Advantage plan looks very tempting with our UHC Supplement plan increasing in cost every year. I’d like to hear from those of you that have been on The Villages UHC Advantage plan for a couple of years and have had various procedures and whether you are happy with your decision.

We prefer the original medicare along with a supplemental plan because there are no restrictions on physicians/specialists one might choose.

Also that there is no geographic restriction, as we do travel quite a bit. By choice many of our major medical requirements, surgeries, rehab have been performed by specialists outside the bubble of TV (and the even smaller medical bubble within TV....not intended as a negative comment just a statement of personal observation).

Over 15 years and our only out of pocket expense has been the premiums for the supplemental and prescription coverage. Yes there have been increases in premiums over the years. However our choice still remains the best coverage for our lifestyle and preferences and the 100% coverage.

The Villages plan has worked beautifully for us. I have to go to Boston 3-4 times a year for very specialized treatment, no problem, same co pay as here. We have found the primary care doctors and specialists to be very well qualified. Procedures, surgery and results all successful.

We agree with Billethkid, the restrictions when we looked at the advantage plans were too restrictive. Also, my wife experienced excessive wait times for specialists, 2 to 3 MONTHS for the initial visit (no treatment), then another month or more for the actual treatment, AND none of her existing doctors would accept the advantage plan, which was a real deal breaker.

How long did you have the UHC Advantage Plan here in TV?

We are not in TV Health system, but wife and I both have UHC and have not had any problems with primary care or specialist. They have the most doctors of any advantage plan. My wife and I have both used many more specialists than we wanted to in the last year, but have not had any problems with appointments or procedures. My primary care said UHC is the easiest plan to work with. Did I mention no referrals needed for specialists.

Just under 1 year, we were able to switch back without underwriting. If go over 50 weeks(?) then you may be subjected to underwriting for the supplemental insurance. Check with SHINE to see if there were any changes.
