I went to Florida Rehab Specialists for my left shoulder 3 years ago and I've gone back to them after my 11/8 surgery; I now have full range of motion back after my 3rd week of rehab.

I can't speak on the rehab quality but I can speak on what not to do after surgery. Do only what the doctor tells you as far as activity with that arm, you can tear an anchor screw loose so easily. I didn't follow instructions and pulled one anchor out in the first week and had to have the surgery re-done two weeks later. Had to use a sling for 9 weeks instead of the normal 6 weeks. After the second surgery I only did what I was told I could do with that arm, still works after 10 years.

General comment, not specific to that facility. I am not a fan of getting rehab at the surgeon's office. The therapists are employees of the same organization and will have a natural tendency to protect the doctor's work from any criticism or to counter their suggestion. An independent therapist can be more honest with you. If there is a difference of opinion between the doc and the PT you may however be caught in the middle and not know who to believe. Be open with each about what the other expert suggested and see if this is just a two ways to get to the same endpoint of equal value or is there a real disagreement on the best way forward.

Controversy is good in your health care as long as you are not a patient who can deal with uncertainty or a difference of opinion. But that is the real world.

Just a guess here but don't most independent PT's get their clients through referrals from doc's? I would think that in most cases the PT would be loath to contradict the doc'... and if they did that very often doc' would drop them.

So I don't see why an independent PT would necessarily be a better/worse choice than the doc's own PT's

As far as me, as a patient, just taking a doc's PT prescription and finding a really independent PT on my own... yikes, I have a hard enough time just picking the right docs'.

Expect PT to be uncomfortable or even painful at times. Your muscles haven't had to work in quite some time and will not be happy about moving again after a vacation. DO the exercises they give you every single day whether in PT or at home. That is the only way you will be back function.

You know, I had PT on both shoulders after surgery and both were painful; after the second one on this left shoulder, there has been virtually no pain; I jokingly asked Dr. McFadden if he had even worked on it.
