Remember that the whole reason for the shutdown, social distancing and masks was to slow the spread of the virus. This was to prevent hospital ICU’s from being overrun. “Flattening the Curve”. As things open back up, spikes were expected. The goal was to keep the spikes under control. All the safety precautions were never about eradicating the virus, just about slowing down the spread.

How come we haven't heard any more information about a vaccine?

Now it’s time to resume life as it was before since the curve was successfully flattened. Spikes only mean more people are sick and may die.

My niece and her family live on Grand Cayman Island.
No planes in or out, no restaurants or hotels open.
No mask, no service at stores that are open.
They're shut down until Sept. 2.
They've had 1 death which was a passenger dropped off from an Italian Cruise ship.

Why? Because the virus is still spreading. How? Mostly from person to person contact. What to do about it? Nothing at this point. Figure it out for yourself. Every man for himself!

What you posted is flat not true.

Santos Urgent Care, which has multiple locations in The Villages, offers both the PRC and anti-body tests. Cost covered by Medicare; copay also covered by most Medicare supplement plans. So free for most people. Doctor authorization not required; one doesn't have to display symptoms.

Vaccines usually take years or decades to develop. Don’t hold your breath waiting

I have noticed in a couple of states, Florida being one, that the number of new cases and the number of deaths per day have been going in opposite directions. More new cases per day, but fewer deaths per day. Maybe there is a lag effect and deaths will catch up, or maybe, as reported by two doctors in Italy, the virus appears to be weakening. We can hope.

Remember that our goal was to flatten the curve. We have done that — but it had a cost: extending the life of the illness. A flatter curve, but a longer life cycle. Without healthy people out and about, we delayed herd immunity kicking in and causing the demise of this virus.

Also realize more people are getting tested than ever before. Thus it stands to reason more illnesses will be reported.

New York has 11 times more COVID-19 deaths than Florida, and Florida has a bigger and older population. You were saying?
